The creation, design, and upkeep of websites is referred to as web development. It covers things like database administration, web design, online publishing, and web programming. Although they are often used interchangeably, web developer and web designer do not have the same meaning. Using HTML and CSS, a web designer essentially just creates website interfaces. On the other hand, writing online programs in programming languages such as PHP and ASP, a web developer may also be engaged with the design of websites. A database utilized by a dynamic website may also need to be updated and maintained by a web developer. Creating various forms of online content is part of web development. A few instances are manually coding web pages in a text editor, creating a website using an application such as Dreamweaver, and maintaining a blog by using a blogging platform. According to Nokeri (2022), the use of content management systems for building websites has increased in the recent past, and this has led to introduction of various web development applications such as WordPress, Drupal, and Joomla. Using a web-based interface and these tools, anybody may easily construct and modify their own website. There are many ways to make websites, but typically simplicity and customization must be in consideration. In this premise, this research paper seeks to discuss three web programming applications, which among them are WordPress, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Bootstrap. The discussion will mainly focus on the main features of the three web programming application and their viability for usage.
By definition, WordPress is web programming application that is created in PHP and powered by a MySQL. This type of web application has been considered by most of the programmers as a content management system (CMS) because of its functionalities. According to Messenlehner and Coleman (2019), WordPress is a great platform for creating a wide range of websites. WordPress is a flexible CMS that can be used to create websites for companies, portfolio, and e-commerce. WordPress is a fantastic option for both big and small websites since it was created with simplicity and agility in mind. WordPress is crucial because it supports both the frontend, which is the portion of the website that is displayed to visitors, and the backend, which is the dashboard where users log in to implement adjustments or add new material. Some example of websites which have been developed using WordPress web application includes E- commerce website, membership websites, business websites, E-learning websites, portfolio websites, forum websites, event and wedding websites among others. With regards to features, WordPress has some distinct and exciting features which includes easy to use user interface. As noted by Messenlehner and Coleman (2019), WordPress has no sophisticated settings and is incredibly simple to use. WordPress can be used if you know how to utilize a WordPress processor. Accessibility is a priority for WordPress as well. Another outstanding feature of WordPress is that you may upload and embed media assets, including photographs and videos, into your pages or posts using WordPress' built-in media library. WordPress even allows you to do simple picture modifications. The technological foundation of search engine optimization (SEO) is WordPress, which offers an excellent code basis for SEO. SEO enables users of popular search engines like Google or Bing to find the material on your website. Finally, WordPress is a streamlined website platform that continuously works to reduce code "bloat" that leads to delays a website's page load time.
Adobe Dreamweaver is a type of web programming application that is powered by HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and other languages in order to create websites for different purposes. From beginners to seasoned experts, Dreamweaver is helpful for a range of site designers. As noted by Harder (2018), the features of Adobe Dreamweaver allow it to be a flexible web editing tool. Some of these features include the following; numerous web and programming languages, such as HTML, JSP, CSS, ASP, PHP, XML, and many more are supported by Dreamweaver. Using the layer feature in Adobe Dreamweaver, it is possible to position text and graphics wherever on a web page. A creative palette with several color selections is provided by Adobe Dreamweaver. The user has the option of using the provided preset color or creating their own composition. Additionally, Adobe Dreamweaver has a publication tool that enables you to quickly handle your files on both your local computer and your web server (Harder, 2018). Web designers can handle all the associated files for a site, upload those files to a distant web server, and maintain synchronization between the file system and the data on the remote server thanks to the highly sophisticated tools included in Dreamweaver.
A bootstrap is an open source web programming application that is mostly utilized to design and create websites and other online applications. This type of web programming application is powered by HTML, CSS, and JavaScript which makes it easier to create responsive, mobile-first websites and applications. According to Nokeri (2022), the mobile first strategy presumes that smartphones, tablets, and task-specific devices will be the norm rather than the exception, and responsive design allows a website or app to detect the visitor's screen size and orientation and automatically change the display appropriately. The main tools used by workers to complete work are mobile applications, which are designed to meet the needs of those technologies. Along with the framework for implementation, Bootstrap also contains layouts, JS tools, and user interface components. This web application is offered both precompiled and as source code. Bootstrap offers a lot of features that not only set it apart but also increase its popularity among web designers that want to approach things in a fairly traditional manner. Although Bootstrap is made up of responsive 12-column grids, components, and layout, it is indeed relatively simple to modify. Implementing a few adjustments will enable you to either utilize a fixed grid or a responsive one. In CPU-based and mobile-based browser grids, offset and layering of columns are likewise simple to do. The responsive utility classes in Bootstrap are another noteworthy aspect. A specific piece of information may be configured to appear or disappear exclusively on devices based on the size of the screen being utilized by using responsive utility classes. As noted by Nokeri (2022), for designers who wish to create a version of their website that is compatible with mobile and tablet devices, this capability is quite beneficial.
As programmer specialized in web programming application, WordPress is my preferred web programming application. This is because WordPress is the only platform that supports one- third of all websites on the internet. It is a strong content management system (CMS) platform that offers a variety of assets and resources. Without having any technological experience, creating and editing content is simple when WordPress is integrated. WordPress is best used by media outlets, online shops, affiliate websites, membership websites, and many other website owners. WordPress is a reasonably priced CMS platform for creating a unique online application. The majority of WordPress plugins are affordable and easy. You must either work with a reputable custom plugin developer or do it yourself if you want to create customized plugins for your web application. The price is determined by the item's size, characteristics, and other elements. Summing up, WordPress continues to be the top content management system because to its many customization possibilities. It features a wide range of plugins and tools that are helpful for quickly adding content (Messenlehner and Coleman, 2019). It enables content addition in web applications for both novices and specialists thanks to its standard interface. With the introduction of Custom Post Types (CPT) in WordPress 3.0, WordPress has developed into a complete content management system. The WYSIWYG editor also enables you to design your own unique menus and navigational components.
In conclusion, this research paper has comprehensively discussed three web programming applications, which among them are WordPress, Adobe Dreamweaver, and Bootstrap. The discussion has focused on the main features of the web programming application and my preferred web programming application. Based on the findings of this research paper, my preferred web programming application is WordPress. This is because of its outstanding features such as search engine optimization (SEO) and built-in media library. However, as web development professional it is essential to have a basic understanding of all the web programming application to navigate through the web design career.
