Genre is like a table of contents of movies that are categorized under different headings. Genre theory is the study of different films. Per Goodykoontz, genre is a classification of films based off story lines, settings, characters that leads up to the expectation of what viewers are looking for in that, that they want to see (2014). Fantasy films are more so geared towards a younger audience. Inside of a fantasy film there are characters that are living in an imaginary world and maneuvers over into the real world in which they have never seen. They have to learn how to adapt to the new setting that is different from what they are accustomed to.

Fantasy allows for the audience to be able to escape in a world where they can be released from real life situations just for a moment. In my opinion it can help ease the mind for some. When viewing fantasy films the evil dark antagonist is always destroyed and the protagonist comes out on top full of love living happily ever after. Do you believe in magic? Do you believe that you can escape from realization and be swept off your feet into a world where all of your dreams come true?

You have Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs along with Cinderella that is living the dream life with singing, dancing, encounters of friendly relationships with animals and others  that may live a distance from them or even on the other side of the forest/world that has never been heard of. This paper will focus on the fantasy genre of the film 'Enchanted' which focuses on good and evil. Why does it take the princess being banished from her world for her to find her true love? All three films allow the viewers to see the happiness that is portrayed within the film. Does Giselle have a place in the real world like Snow White and Cinderella?

Fantasy is anything that uses magic or imagination. It is almost like a camouflage like experience in the mind of an individual that is engaging into the film of escape, wonder, and their curiosity (Charlotte, 2009).

The film that produces fantasy is 'Enchanted'. Enchanted is about a young princess named Giselle who is forced out of her world ending up in Manhattan. As she goes from fantasy to reality she begins to feel uncomfortable because things don't function like that she is familiar with back home.

While she maneuvers through Manhattan she comes in contact by this divorce lawyer that ends up taking her into his home. She brings excitement to his life and turns it upside down showing him that he should not settle with the life that he knows. She pushes him to be the best he can be. As time goes on Giselle starts to fall in love with this lawyer, but things begin t o get complicated when she realizes that the prince from her world comes to Manhattan to rescue her and bring her back home to her fairy-tale world.

Giselle who is thrown into a well by the evil queen is the hero in this film. She appears on the scene wearing a beautiful wedding gown in Manhattan, New York. She is pure, loving, ambitious, gentle, soft spoken, has a beautiful singing voice, and much more. She is considered as being the protagonist in this film and she has a certain way about her that causes the animals to dance and sing with her as she walks through Central Park. Yet she experiences certain emotions once she came in contact with Edward the lawyer such as anger and jealousy. Giselle has to face obstacles in order for her to get to her true love.

Magic can only be used in a fantasy film where the character is only able to use it in their fairy-tale world. Yet in 'Enchanted' Giselle uses hers without knowing it at first when she begins to sing in the apartment and the animals stop and looks around, then follows the voice.  The song in which she sings the animals all join in with cleaning up the apartment. The evil queen of Andalasia used magic to throw Giselle in the well forcing her to leave the land.

In conclusion, when picking the films that are of an interest to the audience from different categories is known as genre. Having a variety of categories such as romance, comedy, horror, fantasy, musicals, and mystery that sparks the interest of viewers from all over is what satisfies the people. 'Enchanted' is geared for the younger audience that has dreams and visions of being a princess. It allows for the children to use their imagination in any way they choose that will bring forth happiness and that is what 'Enchanted' has brought to the scene.
