Perseus, a man who's prophecy characterizes him, is considered one of the bravest heroes in greek mythology. This is because of communication, his responsibility as a hero, and being different from humans.

It all started when Perseus's grandfather, King Acrisius, sought out an oracle at Delphi. This oracle explains to Acrisius his grandson of his daughter Danae, will kill him. This frightens Acrisius and induces him to shield his daughter away from people. Zeus magically is able to enter her prison and Danae is pregnant with his child. When Danae gives birth to Perseus, Acrisius decided to lock Danae and her son away in a chest and cast it off to sea. A friendly fisherman named Dictys, discovers Danae and her son and welcomes them into his home. His brother, Polydectes soon wants to get rid of Perseus to marry his mother, so he arranges a plan to get Perseus killed. He sends Perseus off to go kill Medusa, A gorgon that is impossible to be killed by mortals. However, he is given a mirrored shield from Athena, a magic sword from Hermes, and information on where Medusa is located from the nymphs of the north. After a long and hard journey, Perseus is able to track Medusa down and eventually chops her head off and puts it into a magical wallet. Along the way, he comes upon Andromeda, a princess who has been chained to a rock because her mother offended the gods. A sea serpent is about to eat Andromeda, but Perseus slays the monster and takes Andromeda to be his wife. When he returned home he discovers that Polydectes has driven his mother and Dictys into hiding. Perseus goes to Polydectes' palace where all the corrupt men of the kingdom are located. He walks into the meeting and exposes Medusa's head, turning all of the men there to stone. He lives happily ever after but only after unintentionally fulfilling the prophecy of the Oracle: while participating in a discus-throwing contest, Perseus accidentally hits and kills a spectator, who he finds out to be, his grandfather Acrisius.

Communication changed Perseus because his victory wouldn't have been one, if it weren't for communication. Ifhe didn't communicate with Athena, Hermes, or the nymphs then he would 've never been able to find medusa or kill her. He also had to negotiate with the three gray ladies when he took their eye, or he would've never been able to find the nymphs.

Communication is what enabled Perseus to become such a well-known hero. Communication is what spread his story.

The differences between Perseus and other humans do define him. His father is Zeus, a powerful and well know god. This is a big major difference between him and most humans. Also, he's ambitious and heroic and isn't afraid of his adventures un-like most humans. His abilities and thought process are very different than the humans around him.

Perseus had many responsibilities as a hero. Even though his grandfather banished him and his mother away, he felt a duty to reconnect with him. He had the responsibility to choose a new king to rule over the palace after Polydectes. He was given the responsibility to slay medusa for the safety of the people. The responsibility of being a protector is stowed upon him.

I liked this story because you forget midway through the story that Perseus was believed to kill his grandfather at one point in time. Then at the end of the story, it draws you back to the beginning. Also, Perseus never planned on killing his grandfather, but it was fated and he ended up fulfilling the prophecy. I also thought that it was really sweet when his sibling Athena and Hermes helped Perseus kill medusa by giving him gifts. I thought it added a lot to the story.
