Introduction

Greek mythology keeps influencing modern-day lives mainly because of the gods' values and virtues in those myths represented. One of those myths is the Amazon mythology about a fearless generation of women who fought fiercely and organized their daily activities like men. They represented equality, women’s power and parallelism as they toiled to achieve greatness and fame against the wild nature presented by the male-dominated worlds. In the modern-day, the Amazon online retail stores adopted the name Amazon because they too believe in fierce competitiveness in the global market, strategic organization, and vastness of products; values depicted by the Amazon women. Through the analysis of the core Amazonian values such as diversity, fierceness, speed and brevity, the paper connects how these values have shaped the Amazon prime company and how they have contributed to its success.

The Ancient Myth

Amazons are believed to have stayed in the Black Sea area and the area surrounding the Mediterranean. When the Greeks invaded and took over the region, they did not come across or subdue any Amazonian community. Therefore, they had to develop a narrative of what might have become of the famous travelers’ tale leading to the birth of the Amazon mythology. The Amazon mythology describes the famous and fierce lives of a nation of women who fought fiercely, rode horses, smoked pot and obtained tattoos, cultures dominated by men. They were the daughters of Ares, the god of war (Keep, 1897, p. 24). These women who lived in modern day Ukraine were the greatest enemies of the Greeks. They were led by queens Hippolyta, Antiope and Thessalia. They mated with neighboring tribes and kept only the female children to maintain continuity. Male children were either sent to their fathers' lands or killed as a way to preserve  the  female  purity  of  the  nation.  They were organized into smaller tribes, and every individual had a responsibility to take part in defence activities during wars and hunting.

Children were trained to use spears, shields, bows and ride horses to defend themselves (Frazer, 1898, p.489). This granted them war speed and skill to fight like the men they fought against. During the time of Hippolyta, Heracles, a Greek hero, subdued them, and during Thessalia's time, Achilles defeated them in the Trojan War (Keep, 1897, p. 32). The myth was mainly about enhancing courage, bravery, pride and fastness in Greek wars.

The Amazon prime retail company

Amazon prime is an online retail company that deals with various products ranging from literary works, music, films, grocery, electronics, etc. It is known for its continuous success in maintaining sales even in the toughest of times when other stores are closing due to losses. Due to its competitive nature has always held its position in the top ten online stores globally. It has maintained a broad client base because of its product vastness, speed of delivery and regional flexibility (Warrier et al., 2021, p. 12). Its logo, "Amazon Prime", has an arrow beneath it with its root at 'A' and its arrowhead at 'z' to show the vastness of its products, ranging from the first alphabet to the last. The prime feature describes the speed and effectiveness of deliveries to subscribed members serving as an alert for unsubscribed members to join the program and benefit from its speedy services.

Connections

Amazon Prime has significantly borrowed from the ancient Greek mythology of Amazon women in its culture of speed deliveries and diversity of activities. In the ancient myth, the Amazon women were not limited to inactivity because of gender. They trained themselves to do whatever they had to do without creating limitations for themselves to fit the male-dominated nations that surrounded them. Rather than carrying out a single line of merchandise that could limit their business range, Amazon prime, like the Amazon women, chose to diversify in business by trading unlimited merchandise globally. Despite their offices being in the US, they have kept constant supplies to the rest of the world without minding the regional differences, enabling them to succeed in documenting massive sales each financial year (Warrier et al., 2021, p. 13). Their logo has an arrow pointing between the alphabetic 'A' and 'Z' to symbolize vastness drawn from the Greek art of Amazonian women's weapons of war. While the Amazon women used arrows to defeat their enemies, Amazon retailers used product vastness to attain massive profits and growth.

One of the significant values taught to Amazonian women is the power of speed in war. They had to strategize ahead of the enemy and shoot before they turned out victims to win a war. By being fast, they were always a step forward from their enemies.  It also helped them in training since fast learning meant a quick meant joining the defence troops sooner. Amazon prime has copied this significant value of the Amazon women to improve deliveries and thus customer confidence. By delivering products on time, clients can easily rely on Amazon retailers rather than choosing another retailer for their services (Warrier et al., 2021, p. 10). By winning their clients' confidence, the retail Company has maintained loyal customers who, in most cases, go out and advertise the brand to family and friends.

In war and business, being docile will often lead to unnecessary failures and even deaths. The Amazon women were fierce in their culture and their attacks. They were thorough in their training, and they stood by their cultural standards. Despite being mothers, they still believed that they had to give up their male children for the nation's purity and hence their continued success (Frazer, 1898, p.489). Their fierceness granted them fame, and they were feared by the male dominated nations of their time. Amazon prime implemented most of these lessons. Like the Amazon women, the Company has grown even in the harshest conditions because of their fierce competition and strategy. In contrast, other retailers bend to the pressure leading to massive losses and closure. Through the powerful Amazon spirit, the retail shop has used a strong strategy and unwavering market competitiveness to maintain its market identity as a brand leading to continuous profits even in the most challenging seasons.

Conclusion

The ancient Greek Amazon mythology has heard a significant influence on the Amazon prime retail company by duplicating the Amazon spirit. When the Amazon women's fierceness is implemented in business strategies, the Amazon Company can effectively compete against its competitors even in a hostile business environment granting it a victory. The values of fastness and vastness have enabled the Amazon Company to spread its territories across oceans to the rest of the world, breaking regional and geographical limitations. By embracing the Amazonian diversity, the retail shop has enjoyed the benefits of economies of scale, which has led to its enormous returns every financial year. The Amazon mythology may be an ancient imagination in the Greek oral traditions. Still, its values have shaped a multibillion-dollar company in the 21st century to lead in digital e-commerce. Lessons learnt from this ancient tale have driven the Amazon prime Retail Company into world business records long after the myth was forgotten. It now lives in the modern alterations of the original.
