GLPH 271 ASSES PART 3 REQUIREMENTS   Rationale: It is not enough to identify possible root causes of a population’s health need

GLPH 271 ASSES PART 3 REQUIREMENTS

Rationale:

It is not enough to identify possible root causes of a population’s health need. Ideally, a health intervention should be developed to help improve the health of the population. Now that you have analyzed a health need of your chosen population and identified a possible root cause, it’s time to act. For this assignment, you will design an intervention plan to address the health need of the population you selected. You will also receive feedback from your peers about your plan that you will use to improve the quality of your intervention.

What you need to do:

There are two parts to this assignment. For the first part of this assignment, you will develop an intervention plan targeted at the health needs of your population. For part two of the assignment, you will use feedback received from your peers in Assignment 4 to improve the effectiveness of your intervention plan.

Part 1 - Draft (due before Stakeholder Feedback)

Develop an intervention targeted at the root cause of the chosen population’s health problem (you identified this root cause in the health need assessment). Include a description of the purpose of the intervention, how it will address the root cause of the health need, and why it will work. Where possible, draw on examples of existing interventions developed to address a similar need or population and extract their “best practices” to help legitimize and strengthen your plan. Include a thorough description of the intervention by explaining what it is, who it targets, how it will be implemented, how long it will last, and the activities associated with the intervention. You will also need to discuss the feasibility of your intervention plan by considering the barriers and enablers that will impact the intervention. In your discussion of the feasibility of your plan, include an analysis of both intended and unintended outcomes that may occur, as a way of ensuring that the potential benefits of your intervention are not negated by negative unintended outcomes. Where barriers and possible unintended outcomes exist, please include potential solutions as appropriate as a means of improving the feasibility of the intervention. At this point, you will have a draft of your intervention plan that will be shared with 3 or 4 of your peers (depending on the size of your group) in order for you to receive stakeholder feedback about how you can improve the effectiveness of your intervention (please see Assignment 4 for details). The first draft of your intervention plan will not be marked. Your intervention plan will be marked only after you have received and incorporated stakeholder feedback (see Part 2). As this is a draft without stakeholder feedback integrated, please keep your word limit around 700-1000 words so that your final paper with stakeholder feedback is within the 1300 word limit.

Please note: Once you have completed your draft, you must decide on 3 or 4 (depending on the size of your group) KEY STAKEHOLDERS from whom you would like to get feedback. Examples of key stakeholders would be: a member of the ministry of health, a front-line healthcare worker who deals with patients in your population, the “patient” themselves, patients’ family members, a drug company representative, etc. You must then email your group members your draft intervention plan/proposal, copying (“cc”) your lead TA on your email, and assign each group member a specific role (see assignment 4 for more details).

Part 2 - Final (due after Stakeholder Feedback)

Use stakeholder feedback you received from Assignment 4 to revise your intervention plan. When submitting your final intervention plan for grading, please include a one to two paragraph description summarizing recommendations you received and an explanation of why you incorporated (or didn’t incorporate) these recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the intervention. This 1-2 paragraphs will not count towards the 1300 word limit.

Your final intervention plan should include the following sections:

Background Information: a brief description of the health need of the population and its root cause to provide context for stakeholders about the need for an intervention (i.e., a summary of the information from Assignment 1 and 2).

Objectives of the Intervention: a brief description of the purpose of the intervention, how it will address the root cause of the health need, and why it will work. Include examples of previous interventions or evidence to provide support.

Description of the Intervention: a thorough description of the intervention by explaining what it is, who it targets, how it will be implemented, how long it will last, and the activities associated with the intervention.

Feasibility of the Intervention: a discussion of the feasibility of the intervention that considers the barriers and enablers that will impact the intervention. This includes.  an analysis of both intended and unintended outcomes as a way of ensuring that the potential benefits of the intervention are not negated by negative unintended outcomes. Where barriers and unintended outcomes exist, include potential solutions as appropriate as a means of improving the feasibility of the intervention.

Incorporation of Stakeholder Feedback: after completing Assignment 4, include a one to two paragraph description summarizing stakeholder recommendations you received and an explanation of why you incorporated (or didn’t incorporate) recommendations to improve the effectiveness of the intervention.
