Most people may not have an idea of the many ways that oral literature contributes to children learning. Poetry and prose create a way for people to raise questions, establish essential thinking skills, and express emotions. However, as they pass on oral literature to their peers, the children may cause variations within its forms, content, pattern and may make some deletions and additions. Through different genres, the literature emphasizes the urgency to understand evil, suffering, and pain. Oral literature has its importance significantly attached to its ability to shape and polish individuals' personalities. It is an artistic expression repository in the community and a channel for the world's beauty, harmony, and balance creation. Therefore, oral literature elaborates, interprets, and defines the society's actual vision and the obstacles of the world and sums up the traditional values, beliefs, and knowledge concerning the society's nature and the environment. Oral literature contains many linguistic expression genres and may have many distinct societal functions and importance.
Oral literature allows human beings to fulfill their religious beliefs' needs because most holy texts worldwide are based on past oral traditions. Through saints' stories, legends, myths, songs, tales, and stories, narrators furnish the listener with knowledge concerning gods' work, human weaknesses' nature, and how the whole universe or world functions. Oral literature functions to communicate life appreciation, beliefs, emotions, and ideas. The young generation gets familiarized with ancient generations' rituals, traditions, and customs (Finnegan, 2018). This happens when they are told stories and experiences of the people who existed before them, getting them to learn more about their existence. Oral literature makes human beings aware of themselves, other people, their history, and the environment.
Most mythological stories in oral literature aim at teaching manners, ethics, and morals to the young generation. Besides containing just myths, dance, ballads, folk tales, and others, it also imparts ethical and moral lessons (Finnegan, 2018). Various bravery and adventure stories are meant to entertain children and motivate them to familiarize themselves with and face different challenges in life and educate them in numerous ways to solve those difficulties. Through this, children grow up knowing how to handle various situations they encounter in life. Oral literature also fosters solidarity through people who have had similar experiences, and through that, they provide the younger generation with information on how to handle similar situations.
