Finish the lab, all input data are given

Electrical Engineering May 20, 2022

Finish the lab, all input data are given. The objectives of this experiment are two-fold: (1) firstly to observe and analyse current-voltage (I-V) characteristics of p-n junction diodes; (2) and secondly to compare I-V characteristics for diodes of different material characteristics. Present all results and analysis as described in the preceding sections, including both the experimental data and the model fits, on both linear and logarithmic y-axis scales. Comment on the values extracted for the I-V characteristics, including making and discussing the following comparisons (3 marks): • Extracted ideality factor for recombination-limited or diffusion-limited behaviour • Extracted ideality factor, series resistance and saturation current for devices of different material. • Extracted ideality factor for devices of different application (LED vs standard silicon PIN). • Comment and compare with literature values. Include a discussion of the experimental error. Additional research component (3 marks): Present a case study of a PIN diode application including what is the best material/doping etc. Make sure to properly reference sources used. Note that this component of the report should be a maximum of one page.
