Steps:

1. Read Chapter 1, sections 1-8 of The Logic of Scientific Discovery. I make recommendations about breaking up the reading into chunks on Blackboard in the “Assignments” tab.

2. This is an expository writing assignment and should be guided by these main ideas (please elaborate): A. Karl Popper supports the deductive method and rejects the inductive method as the appropriate method for science. Explain. B. The empirical value of the scientific method relies upon a theory’s falsifiability. How? C. Describe how the structure of falsifiability parallels the square of opposition.

3. Look up and annotate two peer-reviewed articles or books. Please use the library databases which CUNY and your tuition dollars pay for rather than the various click bait sites that are on the internet. In order to use the database, you have to reactivate your id cards at the library at the start of every semester. To access the databases, go to https://library.citytech.cuny.edu/. Then click on “Find Articles”, “Humanities”, “Academic Search Premier (EBSCO)”. For books, use “CUNY Catalog” and search for books at “All CUNY Schools”.

4. I recommend doing a free-write prior to writing your final draft and using a graphic tree organizer to organize your ideas. You may find links to both in “Information” on Blackboard.

Instructions: Write a 1500 word essay about analyzing the logical principles at work in Popper’s famous work. Include at least two peer-reviewed sources. Use Times New Roman, 12 point font. The style of the paper and citations should follow the Chicago Style Manual.
