Preparing an Advanced Presentation

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_PPT19_CS3-4a_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_PPT19_CS3-4a_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • To complete this SAM Project, you will also need to download and save the following data files from the SAM website onto your computer:
    • Support_PPT19_CS3-4a_Music.mp3
    • Support_PPT19_CS3-4a_Rules.docx
  • With the file NP_PPT19_CS3-4a_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As a project manager for the Detroit Transportation Department, you are working on a presentation about the city's bike-sharing program, which was introduced with success about a year ago. You need to complete the presentation by adding and modifying graphics and animations, and then setting slide timings.
On the title slide ("Detroit Bike Share"), insert a sound clip as follows to play music at the beginning of the presentation:
    1. Insert the audio file Support_PPT19_CS3-4a_Music.mp3.
    2. Position the sound icon in the lower-right corner of the slide.
    3. Fix the sound to loop until stopped.
    4. Hide the sound icon so that it does not appear during the slide show.
  2. On the title slide, format the title as WordArt using the WordArt style Fill: Black, Text color 1; Shadow (1st column, 1st row in the WordArt Styles gallery) to change the title apart from the other content.
  3. On the title slide, improve the appearance of the picture as follows:
    1. Correct the brightness and contrast to use the setting Brightness: +40% Contrast: -20% (5th column, 2nd row in the Brightness/Contrast section of the Corrections gallery).
    2. Soften the picture by 25% (2nd column, 1st row of the Sharpen/Soften section of the Corrections gallery).
  4. On Slide 2 ("How It Works"), modify the background picture as follows to make the foreground content easier to read:
    1. Change the transparency of the picture to 75%.
    2. Change the Offset top and Offset bottom settings to 0%.
  5. Remaining on Slide 2, apply the same WordArt style to the "How It Works" title as you did to the title on Slide 1.
  6. With Slide 2 still displayed, insert SmartArt as follows to illustrate how bike-sharing works:
    1. Use the content placeholder to insert the Accent Process SmartArt from the Process section of the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box.
    2. Type the following text in the six shapes:
Blue shape on the left: Join
Blue shape in the middle: Ride
Blue shape on the right: Return
White shape on the left: Reserve
White shape in the middle: Get around
White shape on the right: Lock and go
  7. Remaining on Slide 2, modify the SmartArt as follows to add a missing step and to improve the clarity of the diagram:
    1. Add a new shape to the right of the "Join" shape.
    2. Type Checkout in the new blue shape, and type Unlock in the new white shape.
    3. Change the SmartArt style to Intense Effect.
  8. On Slide 3 ("Find and Reserve a Bike"), animate the picture of a bicycle as follows to attract the attention of the audience:
    1. Apply the Fade Entrance animation to the picture of the bicycle.
    2. Add the Lines motion path animation to the picture of the bicycle.
    3. Change the Lines motion path animation to use the Right effect option.
    4. Extend the motion path animation in a straight line across the slide so that the bicycle appears in the upper-right corner at the end of the animation.
    5. Change the Start setting of the motion path animation to After Previous so that it plays after the Fade animation.
  9. Remaining on Slide 3, insert a text box below the picture on the left as follows to identify its content:
    1. Enter View the system map in the text box.
    2. Format the text box to use a 24-point font size.
    3. Change the color of the text to Olive Green, Accent 5, Darker 50%.
    4. Use Smart Guides to position the text box as shown in Figure 1.

  1. Still on Slide 3, add a hyperlink to the "Download" shape that links to www.bikeshare.cengage.com so that users can click the shape to download the Bike Share app.
  2. On Slide 4 ("Choose a Plan"), change the slide background as follows to make it easier to see the slide contents:
    1. Remove the picture in the slide background.
    2. Display the default gradient fill as the slide background.
  3. Remaining on Slide 4, insert SmartArt as follows to illustrate the types of plans:
    1. Insert the Linear Venn SmartArt from the Relationship section of the Choose a SmartArt Graphic dialog box.
    2. Type the following text in the SmartArt shapes, working from left to right:
      Pay as you go
      60 min/day
      Monthly
      Annual
  4. With Slide 4 still displayed, modify and format the SmartArt to make the contents accurate and to coordinate with other elements on the slide:
    1. Demote the "60 min/day" shape.
    2. Change the colors to Colorful Range—Accent Colors 4 to 5.
    3. Change the size of the SmartArt to a height of 4".
    4. Align the SmartArt in the center and the middle of the slide.
  5. Remaining on Slide 4, add a trigger for the animations of the three shapes below the SmartArt so that the animations begin to play in sequence when someone clicks the "See prices" Rounded Rectangle 8 shape.
  6. On Slide 5 ("Info & Stats"), insert a chart as follows to show the four types of members in the Bike-Share program:
    1. Use the content placeholder to insert a Clustered Column chart.
    2. Enter the chart data as shown in Table 1, completely removing the Series 2 and Series 3 columns of data.
    3. Change the style of the chart to Style 2 to make the columns stand out.
    4. Change the layout of the chart to Layout 4 to display the values associated with each column.

  1. On Slide 6 ("Ride Safely"), add a hyperlink to the text "Download the complete rules." that opens the file Support_PPT19_CS3-4a_Rules.docx, a Word document about safety rules for bicycle riders.
  2. With Slide 6 still displayed, apply the Line Drawing artistic effect to the picture of the bicycle riders to match the treatment of the other picture on the slide.
  3. On Slide 6, add an action button as follows to make it easy for viewers to return to Slide 2 ("How It Works"):
    1. Insert an Action Button: Go Back or Previous in the lower-left corner of the slide.
    2. Link the action button to Slide 2 (How It Works).
    3. Change the size of the action button to 0.6" high and 0.8" wide.
    4. Change the shape style to Moderate Effect—Aqua, Accent 1 (2nd column, 5th row in the Theme Styles palette).
  4. Rehearse the timings for the slide show, recording a slide timing of 5 seconds for each slide except Slide 3, which should appear for 8 seconds, so that viewers have plenty of time to view the slides.
  5. Set up the presentation for browsing at a kiosk so interested Detroit residents can learn about the Bike-Share program.
  6. Check the accessibility of the presentation so that all users can view the slide show:
    1. Check for accessibility issues in the presentation.
    2. Count the number of objects that need alternative text, and then insert this number after the colon in the Notes pane for Slide 6.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, and exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
