NU 530 Unit 4 Discussion – Organizational Structure Critique

Organizational Structure

Its organizational structure heavily influences my current employer's operations. A few years ago, the hospital business I work for acquired a number of smaller hospitals in the area. During this period, the company's structure has evolved to allow for a more simplified management structure that incorporates all entities equally. The current form of the hospital company is based on the Simplified Divisional Organization proposed by Hitt, Colella, and Miller (2014). All workers benefit from this organizational structure since it lays out all the formal reporting connections that regulate our organization's workflow. As long as an organization has drawn out a formal model of its organizational structure, adding additional positions is much easier. The corporate structure allows each hospital to operate freely while adhering to the parent company's fundamental ideals.

What Works

Investment in bringing together and integrating acquired hospitals with the company's culture works well for my employer. In order to achieve its business goals, my organization has had to abandon the silo mindset and create an inclusive work environment. The patient experience might suffer if each hospital has a distinct manner of doing things or a different style of treating patients. Both the patient's and the nurse's experiences have been streamlined at my institution. Involvement fosters a feeling of belonging among workers. This leads to improved performance and the development of creative, collaborative teams. Involved employees are more likely to be productive and happy in their work environments than those who don't feel included (Killingsworth & Eschenbacher, 2018). Patients who utilize more than one of the companies' service lines will have a more consistent and predictable experience due to this.
