Homework answers / question archive / Pretend you are an employer looking for potential candidates to interview for a job in your company
Pretend you are an employer looking for potential candidates to interview for a job in your company. Look through the sample resumes I have posted and respond to the following questions in a discussion board post:
Would you hire these individuals or call them in for an interview based on what you see? Why or why not? Try to discuss specifics about what things work and don't work on these documents. Be as detailed and nit-picky as possible.
To access the sample cover letters and resumes, please click on the first three threads I have posted for you in order to review the three different samples of resumes and cover letters. They are in PDF format so that the formatting wouldn't be lost. If they won't open for you, you might need to do a quick download of Adobe Reader, or save them to your computer and open in Google Docs.
You may choose one resume and one cover letter to address in your post, or discuss them all. However, try to be clear about which one you are discussing as you give your comments (call them Sample 1, 2, or 3). Remember that you are pretending to be an employer looking these over as potential application materials for a job in your company.
These are all separate documents from random people, but you want to think about what you know about both the cover letter and the resume and how each should look.
You will need to discuss at least ONE resume and ONE cover letter.
Sample one - Mitchell Edward Kadlec
I’m highly impressed by this individual. Here are some of the reasons why;
In other words, Mitchell is a full package and I wouldn’t mind having such an employee working for me.
Sample two - Becky Reeder
After analysing the resume, I would hire Becky. Here’s why;
We all start from somewhere and I would love to give Becky a chance to grow in my firm and develop her character more. I would love to have her as an intern without any fear.
Sample three - Mane L. Thao
I would not hire Mane. Here’s why;
In simple words, I have not liked how Mane has written his resume and I would certainly not hire him.

For sample 1 (Mane L. Thao) I would not call them in for an interview or hire them. Their resume is very vague and not well explained or detailed. They don’t even try to explain what their activities and volunteering consists of and what they do. Their format is good though and they act least put an objective and summary. Sample 2 (Becky Reeder) I would call heroine for an interview. She has a clean layout of a resume and she took the time to write an email. She clearly states she has no experience, but she is willing to learn. I would call her in an interview to know more about her. She always has associates in Applied Science in Paralegal and is a student member of the Illinois Paralegal Association. Sample 3 (Mitchell Edward Kadlec) has an excellent format for a resume. They clearly explain in detail what each experience or activity consists of. Even with this great resume, I would not call them in for the job or an interview. Their resume lacks grammar as there are many mistakes. It is just not professional. If they were to reread and change their mistakes, then maybe they would get an interview call.

ANSWER
I totally agree with this recommendation. It’s because Becky and Mitchell have both given great resumes about themselves in a way you need not ask anything about them as they have given full details. However, Mane does not deliver anything and the information about himself is so vague to an extent someone does not have the driver to even consider him for any appointment.
