PROJECT STEPS
1.
The American Bicycle Alliance (ABA) promotes bicycling across the country.

and its programs. As a project assistant for the ABA, you are working on the
document. Start by formatting the title “Bicycling for All” as follows:
a.
Change the font to
Constantia

b.
Change the font size to
24 pt.

Change the font color to
Orange, Accent 2, Darker 25%
(6

column, 5
th
row of the Theme Colors palette).
2.
Modify the first body paragraph (“The American Bicycle Alliance...roads and
pathways.”) as follows to make it easier to read:
a.
C
hange
the line spacing to
1.15 lines
.
b.
Change the paragraph spacing to
0 pt
. after the paragraph.
3.
To emphasize the three major programs, format the three paragraphs beginning
“Best Bicycling Communities:...” and ending “...fun, transportation, and health.”
as a numbered list using the numbering style
1, 2, 3
with bold numbers and no
periods. Refer to the Final Figure, if necessary.
4.
Format the “Best Bicycling Communities” heading so it matches the other two
program headings as follows:
a.
Right-align
the paragraph.
b.
Add a
Top Border
.
c.
Change the paragraph spacing to
18 pt.
before the paragraph.
5.
To format subheadings consistently, use the Format Painter to copy the
formatting from the “Candidates for New Awards” heading to the following
headings:
“Award Renewals”
“Current Award Winners”
6.
For the italicized paragraph “
The application deadline...at
www.aba.cengage.com/apply.
”, change the Indent Left to
0.5"
and the Indent
Right to
0.5"
to set the paragraph apart from surrounding paragraphs.
7.
On page 2, for the italicized paragraph “
The Best Bicycling Community award...
easy on the wallet.
”, increase the indent by one level to make the quotation
easy to find on the page.
8.
Format the three paragraphs beginning “Fort Collins, Colorado” and ending
“Portland, Oregon” as a bulleted list using the default bullet style.
9.
For the bulleted list beginning “Maps and guides...” and ending “...and
recreational programs”, use the check mark bullet style.
10.
Format the four paragraphs beginning “Spring...” and ending “...Bike Bazaar” as
follows:
a.
Insert a left
0.75"
tab stop for all four paragraphs.
b.
Insert a tab immediately before each event name (“Ride Your Bike Week”,
“State Bike Challenges”, “Shifting Gears”, and “Holiday Bike Bazaar”) to
align the text with the new tab stops.
11.
Apply the
Blue, Accent 5, Lighter 60%
paragraph shading (9
th
column, 3
rd
row
of the Theme Colors palette) to the paragraph “Please contact the ABA for more
information at (970) 555-2400.”
12.
Resize the picture at the end of the document to a height of
2.67"
and a width
of
4"
to make the picture contents easier to see.
13.
Apply the
Offset Diagonal Top Right
picture effect from the Outer section of
the Shadow picture effect gallery to add professional polish to the document.
(
Hint:
Depending on your version of Office, the picture effect may display as
Offset Top Right
instead.)
Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your
changes, close the document, then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website
to submit your completed project.
