PROJECT STEPS

1.

You are a project assistant at Learn to Play, a website that teaches people how

to play a musical instrument. You and a colleague are collaborating on a memo

to your manager that summarizes the data gathered about website users.

Start by combining the revisions from the file

Support_SC_WD16_8a_Memo-

EN.docx

, available for download from the SAM website, into your

SC_WD16_8a_

FirstLastName

_2.docx

document as follows:

a.

Label unmarked changes in the original document

(SC_WD16_8a_

FirstLastName

_2.docx) using

Mia Williams

as the name.

b.

Label unmarked changes in the revised document

(Support_SC_WD16_8a_Memo-EN.docx) using

Ed Nader

as the name.

c.

Show the changes in the original document.

d.

After combining the documents, turn off Track Changes.

2.

Accept the revision from Ed Nader to the company name (“Company Name”) to

include the correct company name in the memo.

3.

Reject the revisions from Mia Williams to the first sentence (“...to compile basic

information...”) to avoid repetition.

4.

Read the first comment from Ed Nader, make the change he suggests, and then

delete his comment.

5.

Read the first two comments from Mia Williams, make the changes she

suggests, and then delete both comments.

6.

Accept all of the remaining changes in the document because they are all

correct revisions.

7.

Read the next comment from Ed Nader and then insert the following reply:

I inserted a column chart below the table.

8.

Read the remaining comment from Mia Williams, make the change she suggests

to list the terms and definitions in the same order as in the table, and then

delete the comment.

9.

In the sentence beginning with “The following numbers...” in the second

paragraph, change “numbers” to

table and chart

so that the sentence begins

with “The following table and chart summarize the findings...”.

10.

At the end of the second paragraph, insert a comment with the following text:

I am planning to post this memo on our blog on Monday.

11.

To add visual appeal to the document, format the Learn to Play Website User

Analysis table as follows:

a.

Apply the

Grid Table 4 – Accent 6

style to the table.

b.

AutoFit the table to the window.

12.

In the blank paragraph below the table, insert a chart based on the information

in the table to comply with Ed Nader’s request as follows:

a.

Choose

Clustered Column

as the chart type.

b.

Copy the Learn to Play Website User Analysis table and then paste it in the

chart spreadsheet window.

c.

Remove the Percent Changed data series from the chart, and then close

the spreadsheet.

13.

Apply the following formatting to the clustered column chart so its design

coordinates with the rest of the document:

a.

Change the chart style to

Style 2

.

b.

Change the chart colors to

Monochromatic Palette 6

in the Change

Colors gallery.

c.

Change the chart title to the following:

USER ANALYSIS

d.

Change the height of the chart to

2.5”

so it fits on the first page.

14.

In the blank paragraph on page two, insert Excel data as follows to list

September user data by age:

a.

Open the file

Support_SC_WD16_8a_Users.xlsx

, available from the SAM

website, in Excel. (

Hint

: If necessary, Hide Source Documents before

completing this step.)

b.

Copy the data in cells A1:B7.

c.

Paste the data as a link, keeping the source formatting, and then close the

support file.

15.

Make the new table of Excel data more attractive and remove the connection to

the original Excel workbook as follows:

a.

Center the table on the page in the Word document.

b.

Break the link to the Excel worksheet.

16.

In the blank paragraph below the new table, insert and format a chart to display

the user data graphically as follows:

a.

Choose

Pie

as the chart type.

b.

Copy the table you just inserted, paste the data in the chart spreadsheet,

and then close the spreadsheet.

17.

attractive as follows:

a.

Change the chart type to a

Doughnut

chart.

18.

The document

SC_WD16_8a_

FirstLastName

_2.docx

should look like the Final

Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and exit

Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed

project.
