Your initial discussion thread is due on Day 3 (Thursday) and you have until Day 7 (Monday) to respond to your classmates. Your grade will reflect both the quality of your initial post and the depth of your responses.
 

Data   Stewardship

 Healthcare data comes in many different forms and may be managed by individuals from many different departments. The concept of data stewardship is governed by the philosophy that the collection, viewing, storage, exchange, aggregation, and analysis of data is done within a system of accountability. This system is usually part of a larger quality management program. For this discussion, you will assume the role of a data steward for a large healthcare facility with multiple departments. In your initial post:

• Define/describe health data      stewardship.
• In an acute hospital or a large      provider practice, identify who should practice data stewardship and why.
• Describe specific practices      suggested for data stewardship. Include a minimum of three best practices,      explained in detail.
• Explain the importance of      health data stewardship.
• As the health data steward,      describe what will you do to ensure that PHI is put to appropriate uses      and misuses are prevented.
• Describe how data stewardship      has changed as the healthcare industry progresses to the electronic health      record.

Initial Post: Your initial post should be a minimum of 250 to 300 words. In addition to the textbook, utilize a minimum of three scholarly sources to support your post. Cite and reference your sources in APA format as outlined in the Ashford Writing Center.  
 

Guided Response: Post a minimum of two follow-up responses to peers by Day 7. Each peer response should be a minimum of five full sentences.  How does data stewardship differ between level of care (acute, long term, ambulatory, etc.)  and size of organization?  Share an additional perspective or present new information about the discussion topic.  Your three required posts must be on three different days of the week.
