DBA-805: SEMINAR IN MARKETING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Article Analysis 1

Writing a critical review of an article and then applying the findings/recommendations will allow you to think more strategically about how to relate to and understand the potential implications of academic research. By understanding the full scope of the potential implications of academic research, you will understand how to apply the included information and how this information can then be used in your own professional pursuits.

To successfully meet the requirements for this assignment, you are required to read, review, synthesize, and apply the outcomes of the Blanka article. Once you have read the article, you must summarize and analyze the why, what, and how of the article. You will then need to demonstrate an understanding of the article’s content by applying what you have learned to your own experience or organization.

For this assignment, you will need to include in your summary report of this article the following information.

  1. Article Introduction/Summarization: Summarize why this article is important to our understanding of the topic at hand. Include information relating to the following:
    1. General overview and explanation of the core concepts presented in the article
    2. Authors’ reason for the article/purpose of this study
    3. Summarization of literature provided within the article
    4. Summary of the methodologies/results as presented within the article
    5. Overview of the results of the article/study as presented
    6. Your assessment of the article quality (what they did right, what could be better, how could this information be used, etc.)

  1. Critical Analysis: Based upon what you know about marketing, in unison with what you have learned from this article, provide a critique of this article and its outcomes. You should be able to answer the following:
    1. Are the outcomes of this article useful/applicable?
    2. Do the outcomes/recommendations make sense for business (applied outcomes)?
    3. How do these findings/outcomes relate to what you have learned in this course (i.e., comparison of differences, similarities, additional insights gained, theoretical outcomes)?

When answering these questions, remember that the focus is on providing reasoning and explanation behind your answers.

  1. Three Takeaways: An opportunity for you to tell three things that you specifically learned from this article that you may not have known and how they relate to marketing, business, or just your overall professional use. Ensure that you include why each point is important or interesting and how you can apply what you have learned.

  1. Three Questions: Based upon the content of the article, you must report three questions that were inspired by this article. The premise of this component is that, while reading, there should be concepts/ideas/theories that you were unsure of and required you to find additional information to answer these questions. In addition, you must report upon the answers that you found from your additional research of these questions. You will need to provide academic and popular press references as to where you found the answers to the questions.

When preparing this assignment, ensure that your paper is 1250 to 2100 words (5 to 7 pages) in length, double-spaced, with 1-inch margins. Your paper should include a cover page, page numbers, and for each section of required content, an appropriate heading. (If there are six components, include six section headings.) A separate reference page should be included with all references formatted following APA style. The cover page, appendices, and references do not count toward the final paper length. [MO 2.2]
