This paper will be a theoretical analysis of the ongoing conflict case you picked for the semester. Pick two (or more) conflict theories that we covered in the course that has the potential to explain the root causes of the conflict that I am studying?”.

Current conflict theory has four primary assumptions that are helpful to understand: competition, revolution, structural inequality, and war.

o First, outline and discuss the theories and ideas we discussed in the class about the root causes/conditions of contemporary conflicts.

o Then, figure out the theories that best explain the root causes of your conflict. In the paper, you should have a very brief introductory paragraph, a one-page-long conflict background/history, a section on the theoretical analysis of your case, and a conclusion.

o For the theoretical analysis, introduce the theory with its certain assumptions, and then apply the theory to your case. Use the course readings/videos/discussions as the primary source and then refer to external research if needed.

o The paper should be 5-7 pages double-spaced.

o The paper is worth 10 points.

The paper should use a minimum of 2 theories and a maximum of 4 theories.

Keep in mind that not all theories explain all situations and conflicts. Avoid over-stretching and generalizations.

All Citation styles are accepted as long as they are conventional and used consistently throughout the paper.

Feel free to use graphs and visuals, include a legend (explanation of the symbols) and a paragraph at least explaining the graph.

Feel free to use direct quotes from the readings, make sure to add the proper in-text-citation.

Use introductory sentences in a paragraph (never start a paragraph with a direct quote.

Papers should have a title and your name. Sources should be cited using a single standard academic citation format (APA, MLA, Harvard, Chicago etc.)
