Students will write up a plan for a hypothetical parent-education program that they may one day be called upon to implement

Sociology

Students will write up a plan for a hypothetical parent-education program that they may one day be called upon to implement. Students should choose a setting and target population that is reasonable given their career goals (e.g., someone planning to work in child care might create a plan for sessions to be provided for working parents of toddlers) or something that they would like to pursue in a future career (e.g., someone who wants to work with parents of children with disabilities might create a program that could be offered at EPU). The plan should include a detailed paragraph on each of the following sections:

  • General description of the setting and characteristics of the target population (e.g., court-recommended education for parents of out-of-control teenagers, voluntary class offered in a hospital for couples having their first baby, court-mandated education for divorcing parents, etc.)
  • Content of the educational intervention, referring directly to the concepts that are included in the Parenting Pyramid (will attach pyramid). Rationale should be offered for the content included.
  • Strategies for teaching the program that reflect best practices for adult education. Make sure your description connects to course content. Cite all sources.
  • Evaluation plan. How will you determine if your intervention works? Make sure your description connects to course content.

The Parent Education Plan should:

  • Include your name, date, and section
  • Include a title page
  • Be free of spelling and grammar errors
  • Follow all APA conventions for formatting:
    • 12 point font, Times New Roman
    • Double-spaced
    • Include citations where needed in all instances
    • No more than three written pages (not including title page and reference page)
