1. Why is it useful to study the politics of the United Kingdom? What readings or concepts are useful for understanding this case?

 

2. What is the political landscape of the UK (e.g. Parties, Government, Society, etc…)? What are some of the major political issues that the United Kingdom faces?

 

3. How did the Conservative Party form their “Get Brexit Done” Coalition? What role did populism play in this specific election and Brexit more broadly?

 

Bonus Questions:

 

1. How are individuals who are part of the “elite” able to serve as populist leaders? Do you think populism has the potential to create a movement that truly helps eliminate inequality that “the people” experience, or will the “us vs. them” approach prevent equality of these groups? (2 Section 37 Students)

 

2. Is it possible to have beneficial or pro-democracy populists who strengthen liberal democracy? Can you cite any examples of populists that promote liberal democracy? (Section 42/ Section 37 Student)
