1) Choose (both) a historical example and non-historical (modern) example of barriers to political participation.

For Example: Historical - being African American / Modern - being a felon

Give me background on both. Tell me how they were resolved. If they have not been resolved, why is that the case? And, what are the current efforts in place to resolve these barriers? Explain the role of participation on the democratic process and representation. Keep in mind that those less likely to participate are the young, the poor, minorities, and the least educated. So finally, what is your opinion on political participation? Should everyone be represented in the political process—regardless if they are voting or participating?  Please explain the various types of political participation. 

2) What is public opinion, and does it matter? Please explain the role of public opinion in the American political system.  What about the stability of public opinion? Is the trend in public attitudes on your issue constant and steady, or does it fluctuate over time? Finally, is "divisive" opinion a good or bad thing for the public policy process.
