Description: Describe how technology is used in a context relevant to either your learning or teaching or both. Explain what and how technologies are used. Discuss some of the significant issues that arise in your use of technology in education. This writing should stem from developed class and individual discussions in Moodle.

What this means -

This task comprises three main sections: self-reflection as an educator, connection with the educational community, and critical evaluation of teaching and technology use.

Presumably, each of you has identified an area of focus for your study. You should write this task from the perspective and literature of your own context, e.g. work, teaching or learning experience. Include how this technology may be innovative or not, or how that innovation may be relevant to your context, such as useful to you, but maybe not 'innovative' more broadly. Describe how technology is used in your context. Explain how a specific technology is used, the benefits and some of the challenges. Relate and support your views with relevant and current literature.

The rubric asks you to address the 'controversy'. This means you should try to discuss the benefits and challenges in relation to significant issues (e.g. controversies or conflicting experiences) that arise from the use of this technology, e.g. screentime, loss of handwriting, replacing teacher contact with students, self-guided learning, etc. Use your professional or learning experience and relevant literature to support your argument.

Further hints -

You should choose a specific topic to discuss in this essay. I would recommend choosing one tool or aspect of learning with technology; at the most two but only if they are closely related. I am looking for discussions that are narrow and concise, but deep, in focus. For example, if you want to discuss the use of IWBs in the classroom. Choose a specific KLA (or subject area) and grade/age level. You may discuss the actual use of the tool, but also explore the benefits (perceived benefits) to learning, such as ‘engagement’ or ‘differentiated learning’. Choose one aspect of learning or teaching that you feel the technology supports. The goal in this essay is a critical evaluation of technology use.

You will then draw on your professional knowledge in the discussion, supported by findings or arguments from research. You can discuss personal experiences using technology or working with technology, but you need to relate these points to a body of research. Experiences should be used to illustrate or elaborate on your discussion. Research should

be in the form of academic journal articles (minimum 5, and you can use the weekly readings). Please refer to the Referencing guide.

You should be able to apply some of the ideas discussed in Module 1, ICT in Education. I would recommend reviewing my comments to your posts to gain an idea of the depth of analysis I am looking for in your discussion.
