CREATING A FORM

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_WD19_EOM9-1_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_WD19_EOM9-1_FirstLastName_2.docx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .docx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • With the file NP_WD19_EOM9-1_FirstLastName_2.docx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.
    • If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. As an event coordinator for the Travis County Conference Center in Austin, Texas, you collect information from customers who want to reserve space for conferences and other events. To simplify the process, you are creating an information form that customers can complete and return to you. You will use advanced table formatting techniques and insert content controls to complete the form.

Split the five cells in the first row of the table into one column and two rows, merging the cells before you split them. Move the text "Please complete the following form" into the cell in the new second row, and then change the font size of the same text to 12 point to separate the form title from the instruction. Remove the border between the first and second rows to improve their appearance.
  2. Merge the cell containing the text "Contact Details" with the three blank cells below it. Rotate the text so that it reads from bottom to top, and then center the text horizontally and vertically to use the same format as the "Event Details" text.
  3. With no cells selected, drag the gridline between the first two columns until the Move Table Column marker is on the 0.5" mark on the horizontal ruler to resize the column width without affecting the width of the table. Use the same technique to resize the second column until the Move Table Column marker is on the 1.5" mark on the horizontal ruler.
  4. Change the top and bottom cell margins for all the cells in the table to 0.02" to add more space for the contents.
  5. Change the properties of the Contact Name content control in cell C3 to use the Strong style for text typed into the control.
  6. Add a 1 ½ point border to the bottom of row 6 (which includes the cell with the "Email:" text). Use the default border color.
  7. Insert a Date Picker content control in cell C7 (the blank cell to the right of "Event Date:") so that users can select a date from a calendar. Use the M/d/yy date format. In Design mode, use Select a date. as the placeholder text.
  8. Split cell F8 (the cell containing the text "Travis County college or university" and a check box) into two columns and one row. Drag the gridline between the split cells to adjust their width to match the width of the cells in the next two rows. Type Nonprofit followed by a space and a Check Box content control in the new blank cell. Lock the new Check Box content control so that it cannot be deleted.
  9. Insert a Plain Text content control in cell C9 (the blank cell to the right of "Event Title:"). Use Event Name as the title of the control. In Design mode, use Enter event title. as the placeholder text.
  10. Insert a Drop-Down List content control in cell C11 (the blank cell to the right of "Preferred Space:"). Use Event Space as the title of the control. Add the following three choices to the drop-down list:
    Auditorium
    Ballroom
    Meeting Room
  11. In cell E11 (the blank cell to the right of "Total:"), insert a formula that multiplies the reservation fee amount in cell E7 by the number of days in cell E9. Change the format to show currency with no decimal places. Type 3 in cell E9 (the blank cell to the right of "No. of Days:"), and then update the field in cell E11 to test the formula.
  12. Shade the cells containing the text "Contact Details", "Event Details", and "See TCCC.cengage.com for more details." using Dark Purple, Text 2, Lighter 80%.
  13. Restrict editing in the document to filling in the form without using a password so others can complete the form without changing the other content.

Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
