CREATING A REPORT TEMPLATE

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file NP_WD19_EOM5-2_FirstLastName_1.docx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as NP_WD19_EOM5-2_FirstLastName_2.dotx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .dotx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • With the file NP_WD19_EOM5-2_FirstLastName_2.dotx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the footer.
    • If the footer does not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.
  • PROJECT STEPS
  1. You work in the Marketing Department of Breego Apps, a software company in Santa Rosa, California. Breego develops software for mobile devices, releasing a few new and updated apps each year. At the beginning of each development project, the Marketing Department creates a report that profiles customers for the new or updated app. You are creating a template that project managers can use to produce marketing reports that share the same design and general content.

On page 1, apply kerning to the "Marketing Report" title for 14-point fonts and above to include even spacing between the characters.
  2. Change the font of the "[Insert date]" text to Calibri Light 11 point, apply a right alignment, and change the font color to Dark Blue, Text 2. Save the formatting of that text as a paragraph style named Project Details so that you can use the formatting with other text in the document. Apply the Project Details paragraph style to the "App name: [Insert app name]" and the "Project manager: [Insert project manager name]" text.
  3. On page 2, format the "Copyright" heading (including the paragraph mark) using 16-point Bookman Old Style text, Lime, Accent 1 paragraph shading, and a White, Background 1 font color to set this heading apart from the other headings in the document. Update the Reference style to include the changes you made to the "Copyright" heading.
  4. Replace the "[Insert table of contents.]" placeholder text with a custom table of contents that uses all of the default settings to list the contents of the report.
  5. Modify the table of contents by selecting the Formal format instead of "From template" to apply a format the suits the design of the report. Show heading levels 1 and 2 and remove the Reference style from the table of contents to include only the main topics in the report. Replace the table of contents.
  6. Find the "Weaknesses" paragraph on page 6, and then apply the Heading 2 style to the paragraph to indicate that it begins a new subtopic.
  7. Update the entire table of contents to reflect the change you made to the "Weaknesses" heading. Save the document as a template if necessary, so that other Breego employees can use it to create new marketing reports.

Your document should look like the Final Figure on the following pages. Save your changes, close the document, and then exit Word. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
