Description
As discussed in lectures and in class, landing pages can be an easy way to test a new idea's MVP (minimal viable product). But there is an art to maximizing form and function in a landing page.
This exercise challenges you to analyze existing landing pages in terms of strengths and weaknesses and design one of your own.
Start by perusing this fascinating Twitter thread which analyzes Landing Pages for 1 great feature and 1 opportunity: https://twitter.com/heyblake/status/1395159670998937600
Next, find 5 landing pages and do the same: Screenshot the page, and describe 1 great feature and 1 opportunity. Since you are not limited by Twitter character length, make sure to justify/explain your reasoning behind the great feature and the opportunity. You don't have to focus just on graphic design elements—feel free to bring in concepts from class about what is likely to drive value, or yield meaningful insights about consumer interest levels.
Then, synthesize your analyses into a brief paragraph of landing page "Best Practices." What commonalities do you observe? What insights can you gain from aggregating your analyses together?
Finally, leverage your Best Practices paragraph to re-design one of the landing pages from your analysis. Feel free to be as creative and artistic as you want - you can use Photoshop, Canva (a free graphic design site), or even Powerpoint. In a few statements, describe why your re-designed Landing page is aligned with your Best Practices.
(Of course, if design is not your strong suit, simply describe in detail what you would do and why.)
