Unit 7 Discussion: Scriptures that Apply to the Research process

One of the scriptures that apply to the research process is 2 Timothy 2:15, which calls upon us to seek God’s approval, be ashamed of our work, and handle the truth correctly. God is at the center of all Christian lives. This verse teaches Christians how they should study, conduct research, and show God that they understand the truth. Based on this verse, it is okay to assume that researchers who know God are required to use their Christian teachings to point out false philosophies and teachings. As students or researchers, we should indulge in our research work and aim to be the best we can be. We should take our research work seriously, take time to prepare ourselves, and stay ahead of their work. It takes time to do research, but at the end of it all, we will want to look back and say that we gave it our all.

1 Peter 3:15 three fifteen calls upon us to treat each other with respect and gentleness. As Christians, we should also be respectful and gentle in the way we interact with different people during the research process. Researchers depend on participants for the data they use to arrive at conclusions in their studies. When recruiting participants, some may want to know why they are being recruited. Researchers are required to explain to research participants the goal of the research. And as they do the explaining, they should do so respectfully and gently. Proverbs 10:9 requires researchers to adhere to integrity requirements. A failure to stick to integrity can lead to research works being invalidated. Integrity requirements involve avoiding bias, avoiding conflicts of interest, abiding by confidentiality and integrity requirements, and so on.
