Only one disorder should be chosen. Please do not use a group of disorders. For example, only discuss anorexia rather than all eating disorders. This will result in deductions, as you will not be going into depth for one particular disorder. If the topic is not a disorder, it does not qualify for the assignment. 2. Please make sure there is at least a half of a page or more about the disorder in the book. If not, it is not eligible for the assignment because we do not cover this topic substantially in our curriculum. 3. For statistics and demographics, there should be a minimum of paragraph for each requirement. Thus, half a page or more of information. Statistics can be things like, how many individuals are impacted by the disorder, etc. Demographics can be things like, age, ethnic, socioeconomic differences, etc. Please separate the topics into two different sections. When it is combined, it usually results in deductions due to the fact that there is not information included. 4. Prevention is required. There should be a minimum of a paragraph on just this requirement. Intervention is not the same as prevention. Prevention is preventing the disorder from happening before it occurs. Intervention is a form of a treatment, as you are intervening after it occurs. Causes are also not prevention, although they are related. Cures are not prevention, too. 5. All of the effects have to be covered, including physical, cognitive, social, and emotional. Each individual effect should be a minimum of a paragraph for a total of a full page for the effects section. 6. Treatment should be covered in depth. This is separate from prevention and should be at least a paragraph. Please be specific. For instance, instead of saying medications are treatment, please detail which medications are used and how they might help in treatment. 7. APA style is required, including a title page, abstract, reference page, and citations throughout the document. APA style guides are posted under the Modules section, including sample papers. Please go to APA format (Links to an external site.) and on the left hand side, there is a link to a sample paper and other information on how to complete APA format for your paper. I also HIGHLY encourage you to visit the student success center for assistance with writing and APA format. Student Success Center (Links to an external site.) 8. The majority of the paper should be based off of empirical journal articles. Students are required to use citations and references to demonstrate they were utilized. Please do not include citations used from within the article. The citations in the paper should match the references at the end instead. Part of the reason APA format is required is, the formatting of articles in the reference section will note to me that you used an empirical article. Thus, please make sure you format correctly, as I will not know you used an empirical article without the correct formatting, which may impact your grade for the articles and formatting section. Please do not just list the articles at the end of the reference section without citations throughout your paper, as it will not earn credit for this portion. You have to demonstrate that you used the information, which is noted with in-text citations throughout the document. To find empirical articles, please go to the Coastline Library (Links to an external site.), scroll down to Psychology, then click on PsycArticles. From there, you will search your topic and find empirical articles. Information on how to determine if your article is empirical is on the syllabus. 9. It is best to use headings to label your sections, so I know what information you are trying to count towards a particular requirement. This is also required because it is part of APA format. Please see the APA link for information on how to do headings in APA format. 10. When you submit your paper to the following dropbox- Research Paper, it is automatically put through the Turnitin system to check for similarity. Thus, please keep your similarity low. Any similarity over 10% will not earn credit and high similarity reports are required to be reported to the Dean in line with college policy. To avoid plagiarism, please put all information in your own words with citations and references. Students may include age, ethnic, educational, or socioeconomic differences - (Helpful hint: CDC is a great website to use for this section) 3. what the disorder is and how psychologists define it-(Helpful hint: use DSM descriptions) 4. the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional effects of the disorder (Helpful hint: all effects are required to earn full credit - should be a page or more in total) 5. prevention of the disorder (Helpful hint: causes, interventions, treatments, etc. are not prevention) 6. treatment options for the disorder (Helpful hints: therapies, medications, etc. are examples, but please be specific in providing descriptions of these treatments) • • 5-7 pagesof text is required (not including the title, abstract, and reference page). An abstract is required. APA format is required including a title page, abstract, headings, formatting, in-text citations and references. Basic formatting is 1” margins, double spacing, Times New Roman, and 12 pt font.
