How Your Thinking and Learning Has Evolved

You have now conducted a simulation of strategic planning. In the real world, you would normally engage professional peers and superiors as well as decision-making bodies, investigate other organizations, and evaluate past performances as part of the process. While you may have been able to undertake some of these activities, you have probably also had to invent possible realities to simulate the process.

Reflect on your experience discussing your initial preparedness to undertake the simulation. How have you evolved in your thinking, learning, and acting, after completing the strategic plan?

How My Thinking and Learning has Evolved

The strategic planning class has helped in learning the process necessary when proposing and implementing the strategic plan. For example, I have learned it is crucial to develop a strategic plan based on its needs or community. Besides, it is crucial to formulate objectives that a human services professional wishes to achieve after implementing them (Bryson, 2018). I also learned evaluation and reviewing strategic plans is an essential step in the implementation of the program. Therefore, I have understood the management of projects within the human services profession by reflecting on the strategic planning process. Similarly, I have understood the importance of aligning one’s objectives to the mission and vision of the organization. This approach to strategic planning ensures the implemented projects do not deviate from the institution’s purpose (Bryson, 2018).

I have also learned how effective it is to prioritize tasks during the development of the strategic plan. This process ensures the planners focus on needs that would result in the organization’s success and those that benefit the community (Bryson, 2018). The class has also helped improve decision-making and problem-solving skills. For example, I learned how to critically assess and point out the problems a community might face and suggest appropriate programs for their improvement. Additionally, the class has helped in realizing the significance of collaboration during program development and implementation. While working on the simulated strategic plan, I understood how collaboration with other professionals such as health workers and community leaders help during the assessment stage. Therefore, I have learned how to improve my coordination and consultation with colleagues during my practice.
