DBA-800: CRITICAL THOUGHT AND INFORMED ACTION: MODELS OF DECISION MAKING AND ORGANIZATION ACHIEVEMENT

Final Project

OVERVIEW

You will complete a case analysis that demonstrates the knowledge and skills you have gained throughout this course.

Course objectives covered in this project include CO 1, CO 2, CO 3, CO 4, CO 5

GENERAL PLAN

In this project, you will clearly define a specific business problem or quality improvement initiative using the information from the mentor-approved Final Project Case Analysis Template submitted in Module 3. You must use the defined components of the case from this template as a guide to writing the narrative and performing an analysis of the case outcomes as indicated below. You will use the questions, data, and analysis plan from the approved template for this project.

This project includes your analysis of the identified problem from the Final Project Case Analysis Template, analysis of the decision theory/model used, support for a decision-making model, application of specific tool(s), analysis of the culture and risk tolerance, and evaluation of the complexity of the organizational context. This work will result in a defined plan of action to improve the outcomes based on your analysis of the data collected as defined in the template. [DBA 1, DBA 5]

INSTRUCTIONS

Write a 15- to 24-page paper (3750 to 6600 words) in APA format that focuses on the case defined in the case analysis template approved by the mentor. Be clear and concise in your presentation of information about the case. The length of the final project paper should not exceed the maximum page number (not including the title page or references).

The headings below should be used when completing this case analysis. You must use at least 20 references in this paper; 15 of these references need to be sources not provided in the course; 10 of these sources must be scholarly peer-reviewed journal articles; and 10 references can be white papers published by professional organizations (e.g., Society for Human Resources Management).

No blogs, wikis, or news websites will be accepted. Make sure that you appropriately cite and reference data collected and used in this case analysis.

Introduction [maximum 1 page]

Case Study Purpose [maximum 3 pages]

  • Clearly articulate the purpose of this case analysis using Section 2 from the Case Analysis Template.

Organizational Problem [maximum 2 pages]

  • Provide a concise overview of the organizational context and identify the ways in which you are evaluating the organizational context.

Note: Refer back to instructions and feedback received throughout the course; the narrative for this section should be based on what you learned in the course.

Theoretical Framework for Analysis of the Case Study [maximum 3 pages]

  • Investigate and utilize two or more approaches to decision modeling and analysis.
  • Apply this framework to this case to provide perspective on how the decisions were made.

Methods: Define Data Collection and Analysis Plan [maximum 2 pages]

  • Reference Section 3 of the Case Analysis Template as a guide. After gathering data as described in Section 3 of the Case Analysis Template, organize and present the data in an effective format (e.g., table, figure).
  • Describe the relevance of the data and the method of planned analysis. (This will vary depending on whether the data is qualitative or quantitative).

Discussion [maximum 6 pages]

  • Using the questions you generated in Section 1 of the Case Analysis Template, analyze your data to answer your questions. Create subheadings to organize your analysis.
  • Specifically address what your analysis reveals about the organization’s culture and risk tolerance as well as the complexity of this case.

Subheading: Implications of Case Analysis [maximum 4 pages]

  • Based on the case analysis, what implications would your findings have on future practice within your organization?
  • How would you use what you learned from this analysis to improve future practice in a similar situation? Using the research data, describe forward-looking organizational strategies.
  • What should others learn from your experience?
