Response on American Voting System

Introduction

Voting is a civic duty and one of the rights of any American citizen, which gives citizens the chance to elect individuals viable for a different position and promote sustainable development through leadership.  All Americans over 18 years are entitled to vote both in State and federal elections. Until 1890, many problems faced voting procedures, such as lack of secrecy in voting and use of party tickets revealed allegiance. Women were not able to vote, and religious and ethnic groups determined a person’s party affiliations. Later different reforms led many people, all citizens over the age of 18, to be in a position to vote, and increased freedom to choose party affiliations and the candidates to vote for.

Importance

Some of the important aspects of life that gained strength during the voting reforms were abolishing some of the voter unfriendly policies, such as having parties limited to the government. The voting reformed also led to increased race relations among different people. The voting systems' reforms also assisted in bringing women into the voting systems and opposed tariffs that did not support international trade with other countries Burke, A. S. (2016). Reforming America's Out-Dated Voting System. Through the voting system, policies like creating a bureaucratic system to give citizens chances for better jobs were availed. The voting reformed have progressed till today where America has a e-voting system.

My Interested on the Topic

I am interested in the voting systems and reforms is because I realized there is a lot of power in voting systems. The leader’s citizens vote for having many powers making policies, decisions, and regulations that directly affect people. Strong voting systems ensure public interests are met and the reasons why America has achieved huge milestones in its international trade sector. My interest in the voting system is also because I understand that political leaders elected can change economic situations, which may deter a country from progressing.

My Thoughts

My thoughts are that some of the challenges faced by Americans initially, such as challenging adverse economic cycles, resulted from poor leadership caused by the unreliable voting system. My thought is that the kind of leaders elected through voting determines the banking systems, the real GDP of a country, the level of unemployment, and tariffs imposed on goods. The increased number of people voting in America has contributed to the reforms made in different departments, leading to international trade and strengthening the economy. I feel that the many depressions in the economy of America which occurred some years back were a result of poor leadership, which could be associated with a weak voting system where there were no laws and policies to protect the voter’s rights. I think some of the policies that contributed a lot to a strong voting system in America were promoting nationalism and national unity and enacting women in the voting system. I think voters understand their powers and know that leaders are responsible for solving citizen problems by creating better reforms through instances like the impeachment of Presidents. If America could not have taken the initiative to have a better voting system, many countries would have the era of Laissez Faire.

Conclusion

The American economy changed when dominant political parties helped in the election of better political leaders. Through the government roles, Americans have witnessed lower tariffs in trade and increased salaries for works, making it easier for the country's economy to stabilize. The voting reforms were essential in the history of America, as this led to economic expansion, which most American citizens enjoy up to date.
