AMAZON CULTURE
The word today has gone from analog to digital. This has led to a change in consumer behaviors, thus prompting every single company to adopt a new way of reaching their customers. In the recent past, people had to travel for long distances, thus enduring challenging circumstances to reach the market places. It was only this way that they could be able to purchase goods and services that they needed. However, advancements in technology and innovation have brought about changes that are advantageous to the consumers and the producers. The producers can nowadays get a ready market for their products at a click of a button. Similarly, the consumers can get the goods and services they want today at their doorsteps at a click of just a button (Chaffey, 2017). All this has been made possible by online business platforms like; Amazon, Alibaba, Thrive Market, Hive, Chewy, etc.
Of all the different online business platforms, Amazon has proven beyond reasonable doubt that they control the vast majority of the market population. Amazon is an American company that concentrates on conducting e-commerce, digital streaming of movies and series, even songs, providing artificial intelligence, and helping consumers out with cloud computing. However, it is essential to note that Amazon does not manufacture any of its products. Amazon links with different producer companies to market their products on their behalf and get a commission out of it (Faherty, 2017). Amazon also buys some of the products, rebrands them using their logo, and then proceeds to sell them just like they were theirs. This has made Amazon grow over the years from just America to the entire world. And today, Amazon can be proud to boast of its most expansive share market control in online marketing.
AMAZON LEADERSHIP.
However, these successes of Amazon do not come from a silver platter. Instead, they are attributed to two significant reasons; Amazon's leadership structure and the Amazon culture. Amazon has grown through its different stages of success with only one chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CEO of Amazon is, therefore, the renowned Jeff Bezos (Rossman, 2014). Jeff Bezos has hence adopted a hierarchical form of leadership (De SANTIS, 2018). In this form, he has succeeded in dividing the comprehensive company into various sub-sections, led by different people who are also known as CEOs. The different subsections thus run independently and carry out their meetings where they make their own decisions to better the performance of Amazon. After this, the respective CEOs then hold meetings with the overall CEO, Jeff Bezos, to brief him on the different strategies they plan to implement in their sectors for approval.
Therefore, the different subsections and departments of Amazon include; SVP and finance department, which is led by the chief financial officer, who is currently Brian Olsavsky (De SANTIS, 2018). Then there is the department that is in charge of advising the CEO, Jeff Bezos. Wei Gao leads this department. Similarly, since Amazon is an international company that deals with many consumers, it has the department of worldwide Consumer, which is led by its CEO Jeff Wilke. The other department is the department of Corporate affairs which Jay Carney leads. Amazon still grows bigger in terms of the department; thus, the Business and Corporate Development department is led by Jeff Blackburn. Likewise, Amazon has a human resource department that, like any other human resource department in any other organization, is in charge of hiring and ensuring workers are comfortable. The Human resource department is led by Beth Galletti (De SANTIS, 2018). Then Amazon is an online business platform with a Web services department led by a CEO who is known as Andy Jassy. Amazon also has a legal department labeled the SVP & general counsel department, and David Sapolsky leads it. Finally, the last department in Amazon's comprehensive departmental structure is the SVP, Amazon devices, digital management department. Dave Limp also leads this department.
AMAZON CULTURES.
All these CEOs of amazon’s department have the individual responsibility to ensure that their departments are running smoothly by building another sub-leadership structure for their departments to help them run the departments smoothly. Amazon is a vast and diverse company, has adopted various cultures over the years. These cultures are meant to boost the employees’ esteem during work, thus increasing every individual working in the amazon structures. The cultures also help the employees bond with each other and gain broad experiences in the course of their work duration at Amazon.
First of all, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has helped the organization adopt a “Two Pizza Rule culture." This culture states that different Amazon meetings should be held with the minimum number of people possible. The members present in the meeting should be able to divide two pizzas only comfortably during their meetings. Amazon has also developed a culture of taking pride in operational excellence (Denning, 2019). According to this culture, Amazon leadership is only happy when its operations are running smoothly, and there is no fault at any stage of its operations.
Further, Amazon has a culture of consumer obsession (Faherty, 2017). As the word proceeds, consumers around the world continue to develop and adopt new trends. The trends have grown over the years from the need for product delivery at the Consumer’s doorstep to fast and diverse product delivery. Amazon has therefore taken an obsession in trying to fulfill these market demands by first creating a successful online trading platform to recently creating a logistic department for the supply of their goods and services.
Amazon also has a culture of long-term thinking (Denning, 2019). Jeff Bezos led amazon do not to take pride in the success of today. Instead, the entire amazon leadership takes pride in forming long-term goals for the company; this leads to long-term successes. It will be challenging for any competing company to overtake them soon. Further, the company has a culture of developing an attitude of eagerness to invent. This has even led Amazon to create a devices digital management department in charge of all the technological innovations at Amazon. Finally, Amazon has developed a culture of respecting every individual's differences to the company (Faherty, 2017). This has made the company build a platform for all the innovations and ideas in the successful company.
Therefore, Amazon has grown over the years after being founded and led by Jeff Bezos for many reasons. However, just like it is evident, Amazon’s leadership and the different cultures that are followed at the organization have contributed significantly to the successes that we witness today.
