Now that we are half-way through the course, share what you have learned about your communication skills.

  • One thing that I've learned with regards to my communication skills is that I have so much more to learn about the one thing that quite frankly expresses and creates realities among people. I also learned that there are many facets of communication to develop and being aware of this will give you a leg up in terms of receiving the outcomes you're looking for.
  • In addition, since you are going to be working on revising your outlines to write your final proposals, what do you think about revision? The novelist, John Irving said, "Half my life is an act of revision."
    • I think revision is a written version of what living feedback looks like. I have to get in the habit more of letting others whose judgment, expertise, and knowledge based I trust to help me revise any paper work or written communication. Revision is truly key in ensuring that the best possible outcome of that communication is ultimately realized.
  • How much revision do you use in your communication? Consider the "Ten Principles of Power Editing" found in Chapter 5.
    • I honestly don't do too much revision of my communication which again is an area I need to develop more and work on. I used to when I was doing my undergrad work, but it has tapered off a bit.
  • Which ones do you use and why are they helpful to you? Why?
    • I use a lot of the "Give It Some Space" aspect of revision. I think with the way my brain works, I'm a huge processor. I have to take my time with certain level of information given to me or else I've completely disconnected. Likewise, when it comes to writing, sometimes the information that has just left my psyche needs a moment away from me so that I can come back to it after much reflection and contemplation.
  • How will you revise your outline to write your full plan?
    • I'm going to utilize role switching as well as annotation more with this writing project.
