NSG470 Course Project Project Objective: The team will create an organization, facility, or unit and identify a problem that exists. The group will create a plan of change and evaluation for that problem. Finally, the group will evaluate each other regarding group dynamics. This project meets the following course objectives: 1. Describe and apply the concepts, theories, and principles of leadership and management, and how these are integral to professional nursing practice. 2. Apply and interpret concepts and theories for managing change, communication, and conflict resolution for effective decision-making in practice. 3. Analyze and explain strategies for resource allocation and process improvement in the changing healthcare environment. Make each element or section is addressed in the final presentation. This project is worth 200 points and is 15% of your assignment grade. Presentations include key concepts of the proposal with an introduction and conclusion. Note pages should accompany the presentation with appropriate in-text citations (add these to the bottom of each slide. In-text citations are not necessary on the presentation but are expected in the notes. References at the end of the presentation in APA format are expected. In order to complete this project, the group should only utilize reliable and SCHOLARLY nursing references, such as nursing textbooks, ATI textbooks, scholarly peer-reviewed publications, and scholarly websites (end in .org, .edu or .gov). Do not use .com, .net, wikis, blogs or non-scholarly sources. SWOT Analysis: Each team will complete a Learning Team Agreement as a contract with each other regarding how the project will be completed. Application of SWOT analysis are included in the LTA to assist the group in creating the agreement. Part I – The Organization, Facility, or Unit • Create a healthcare organization (hospital, outpatient center, home health care agency, specialty service center, telehealth agency, etc.). o • • • • Provide a summary of the organization, including name, type of facility, location of facility, and purpose/population. o If an actual organization is used as a model, then the organization MUST be deidentified. (10 points) Develop a mission and vision for the organization. (10 points) Identify/create an organizational structure (create an organization chart). Include what type of nursing staff will be employed. (10 points) Develop or adapt a nursing practice model/philosophy of nursing statement. Include a description and visual aid. (10 points) Identify 2-4 methods that are used to communicate general information with all staff. Provide a rationale for each in the notes section of the PP. (10 points) Part II - The Problem The nursing team in your area has identified a problem or concern that must be addressed. (The group selects the problem/ concern and it must be approved by the instructor). • Describe the nursing related problem or concern (examples include but not limited to: staffing schedule, a process, equipment, therapy, etc. Keep it simple, realistic, achievable, and measurable) and how the problem or concern is affecting the healthcare organization. (10 points) • Define the stakeholders who are affected by the problem or concern. Describe their roles? (10 points) • Describe what will correct the problem or concern. This is the solution. (10 points) • Provide evidence that the desired solution will correct the problem. (10 points) Part III – The Change Process • • • • Choose one of the change management models to serve as the framework for this assessment. Describe the change model. (10 points) Provide rationale for choosing this change management model for this problem. (10 Points). Identify each aspect of the chosen change model and how each step will be addressed for the proposed change. (10 points) Identify 2-4 methods to communicate the change process with nursing staff. Provide a rationale for each in the notes section of the PP. (10 points) Part IV – Opportunities and Barriers; Evaluation • • • • Identify who are the change agents for the organization, facility, or unit identified and describe the role of the change agent(s). (10 points) Identify potential or real challenges/barriers of the change process, and what you would recommend to mitigate the barriers? (10 points) Identify facilitators of the change process, and what you recommend to encourage the facilitators? (10 points) Describe how the team will evaluate the problem change effectiveness. When will evaluation happen? (10 points) Part V – Professional • • • Describe the professional ANA or specialty standards used to mitigate the change process. (10 points) Describe at least two (2) QSEN competencies using at least two (2) KSA’s for each competency that this change addresses or employs to support the change. (10 points) The core team (this is your team) is up for final evaluation of their involvement in the change process. Identify an appropriate performance appraisal method to evaluate the team and a tool to use. Provide description and visual aid. (10 points) Final Project Submission • Create a PowerPoint to address each element of the course project. See each element for grading (# points). Submit via TurnItIn submission link in Week 9. • PowerPoint Presentation: Spelling, Grammar and APA formatting = (10 points) o Use in-text citations on slide where necessary. o Use in-text citations to support notes for each slide where necessary. o Include a reference list slide(s). o Notes included in the notes section of the PowerPoint slides o If TurnItIn report is more than 25%, make sure you review and provide in-text citations where necessary (otherwise, you are plagiarizing which is academic dishonesty and will NOT be tolerated). Presentation = (10 points) - Presentation informative with good flow from beginning to end. Professional dress and presentation with great voice inflection, eye contact, and use of visuals.
