Electronic prescription, or "e-prescribing," is not a new concept in pharmacy; nonetheless, it has grown quickly in the recent decade to keep up with the country's growing health-care needs. With the passage of the Medicare Modernization Act in 2003, e-prescribing was thrust into the limelight (MMA). Although the MMA did not force providers or pharmacies to embrace e-prescribing, it did create a set of standardized criteria for acceptable implementation and usage. In today's health care, patient safety and prescription error reduction are important problems, and e-prescribing was created to solve these concerns. E-prescribing faced several obstacles at first, making it difficult to overcome pharmacist and provider opposition. Many of the issues that plagued past years have been overcome thanks to technological advancements (Ducker, 2018).

Patient safety is one of the pros of E-prescription it enhances safety by a great significance. It avoids errors that are associated with written prescriptions that are hard to read leading to error in drug, dosage, or duplicated therapy. Although e-prescribing removes certain mistakes, it also adds new ones and reintroduces issues that existed with traditional prescriptions. One of the advantages of e-prescribing—more time for the pharmacist to perform other services—is counterbalanced by the longer time it takes to complete an e-prescription if there are errors. Most e-prescribing mistakes are caused by omitted or erroneous information, such as improper medicine selection, inappropriate patient, and incorrect guidance.

The system adopted a “out-of-the-box” approach to patient charts and charting by reimagining what health records should accomplish for your practice: serve as tools to increase clinical productivity and patient outcomes. Patient chart was redesign for any screen resolution on any laptop or desktop, focusing on how practitioners see, consume, and manage clinical material. Patient charts are now adaptable and dynamic, allowing you to make better use of your cards by maximizing content density.

In the ambulatory care environment, e-prescribing systems can be integrated into electronic health record (EHR) systems or used as stand-alone systems. Clinical notes, laboratory orders and findings, and clinical decision support (CDS) capabilities are all available in EHR systems, which are not available in stand-alone systems. 8 Providers have access to all patient information, not just prescription information, when e-prescribing is part of an EHR system (Porterfield, 2015).

AdvancedMd software does incorporate patient doorway, it gives them access to their medical records online and access to view their electronic prescriptions.  The system protects all personal health information and give the patient a secure login to the portal. AdvancedMd has flexible documentation, manages specific conditions of the patient, it has an alert system for appointments, prescription refills, and labs. It manages documents, images, audio, and video. Overall, the system provides the provider with great access to each patient whether it is e-prescription, access to their electronic health record, or images. It give the patient access to view their chart whenever they want. Electronic health records and electronic prescription has made it easy for both the provider and patient to provide great quality care.
