PEOPLE ARE NOT KILLED BY GUNS

Introduction

"Guns don't kill people; people kill people," the National Rifle Association has maintained. So, what exactly is America's genuine gun problem? Throughout history, many people have used weapons for both good and bad purposes, but a surprising number of people now believe that making guns illegal is a good idea. They believe it will make America safer from gun violence. but this is a flawed argument. The argument behind gun prohibition is straightforward: if weapons can't be purchased, and no one can legally own a firearm (a legal term for a gun), "mass shootings" will happen, right? False, wicked individuals will always find a way to attach a weapon to their malicious activities. In my speech, I will outline why guns do not kill people, but people kill people.

Prohibiting weapons simply because they have the potential to harm people is akin to banning this spoon because it has the potential to make someone obese. It doesn't make sense. But whether the pistol or the silverware is in excellent or evil hands depends entirely on who holds it. I feel that stricter gun control is required, such as improved background checks and age limits (Hodges, 2015). Age checks, proper instruction, and handling a weapon are required for a private sale of a firearm that is not made through a licensed federal firearms dealer. For example, in the previous ten years, legislation was enacted stating that no one can own a pistol or any gun with a barrel less than 18 inches unless they have undergone a certified handgun safety course in Michigan.

If weapons are prohibited, civilians will be exposed to danger and unable to defend themselves against those with malicious intentions. A robbery recently held up a man in his mid-60s in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and he had to fire two shots, but the culprit was unharmed. It could have been a lot worse for the man not to be here today if he had not been armed and licensed to carry a concealed firearm by the state of Michigan (Kessel, 2021). It is also a fundamental right established in the Second Amendment, which states, "A well-regulated militia being essential to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed."

As a result, banning guns would be a violation of the Second Amendment right, as well as the founding principles of our country. To demonstrate that firearms aren't the issue and people are, there were 32675 fatal car accidents in 2014 and 1405 deadly gun-related incidents, even though there are 20 million more guns in the United States than cars. Furthermore, spoons, knives, and even hands cause significantly more lethal injuries. However, having common sense and understanding that guns are required for life in many northern parts of the continent and the fact that growing up and hunting and living off the land is a part of the country's heritage (Maddox, 2017). Consider the countries of the Third World; they are all socialist. They don't have any freedoms or rights under the Second Amendment. Hence, they don't have guns or other means of self-defense. As a result, terrorism is endemic in these countries, and guess who they call to defend them? If we don't send our troops, they want to help with weaponry. We shall become a third-world country if we are unable to protect ourselves.

Let us now discuss firearms. What would you do if someone broke into your house with a nine mil? Isn't it true that you'll wish to safeguard yourself? If you don't want any guns in your home, how do you do that? The criminal will not say, "Well, I guess this is a gun-free zone." Instead, I'll find a knife. That's not how life works. Yes, says the armed individual. It's the same as shooting ducks in a barrel; they have no way of defending themselves (Shammas, 2019). People can be killed by a variety of means, not just guns. A wrestling instructor, father of five, and husband were stabbed to death while fishing, and when a group of boisterous miners was urged to quiet down, one of them came over and stabbed him. He could easily have defended himself if he had possessed a pistol.

At Harvard University, a study was done. They discovered that countries with more firearms have lower crime rates than those with fewer firearms. Here are some fascinating facts that few people are likely to be aware of. Despite having the most guns globally, the United States ranks 28th in terms of gun murders per 100,000 inhabitants (Kessel, 2021). Gun sales have surged in the last two decades, while killings and other crimes using firearms have decreased by 39 percent and 69 percent, respectively. Guns are used 80 times more frequently to prevent crime than to kill people in the United States. According to a Justice Department investigation, the assault weapons prohibition, enacted in 1994, had little effect on reducing gun violence.

I have spent my entire life surrounded by firearms. I've hunted with them and shot them countless times, yet I have never seen someone get hurt, killed, or injured. Because it all boils down to how you use that weapon, I have never been held liable for anyone's injuries. But, while we should not be terrified of guns as Americans, we must reconsider the level of respect we accord to them (Hodges, 2015).. So, for example, the type of weapons I need to be regulated, such as an AR-15 style rifle with a 30-round magazine, may or may not be necessary for home protection or hunting, but they do have their place. However, limiting the magazine to only ten rounds would be a positive step forward.

In conclusion, Overall, gun prohibition is a negative concept since it renders civilians defenseless in the face of threats. It infringes on our fundamental rights and robs us of our country's natural heritage. The only way to reduce gun violence is to make firearms brighter, not harsher on people. I mean that looking at cases where people have done horrible things with weapons and instances where people have not done bad things with guns for years. They were sensible; they'd been hunting and living with firearms for years with no ill effects. However, as I already stated, that is a speech for another day.
