Illustrated PowerPoint 2016 | Module 1: SAM Project 1b

Halloween Howl

CREATING A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

GETTING STARTED

  • Open the file IL_PPT16_1b_FirstLastName_1.pptx, available for download from the SAM website.
  • Save the file as IL_PPT16_1b_FirstLastName_2.pptx by changing the “1” to a “2”.
    • If you do not see the .pptx file extension in the Save As dialog box, do not type it. The program will add the file extension for you automatically.
  • With the file IL_PPT16_1b_FirstLastName_2.pptx still open, ensure that your first and last name is displayed in the presenter notes on Slide 1.
    • If the presenter notes do not display your name, delete the file and download a new copy from the SAM website.

PROJECT STEPS

  1. The Pet Rescue Committee has asked you to create a presentation announcing the Halloween Howl Doggie Costume Contest. On Slide 1 (no title), type Halloween Howl as the slide title, then type Doggie Costume Contest as the subtitle.
  2. To begin entering the content of the presentation, add a new Slide 2 using the Two Content layout.
  3. On the new Slide 2 (no title), enter text describing the costume competition as follows:
    1. Enter Costume Categories as the slide title.
    2. In the left placeholder, enter a bulleted list with the following items:

Funniest

Most Creative

Famous Person

    1. In the right placeholder, enter a bulleted list with the following items:

Best Twins

Best Dog Team

Bad to the Bone

  1. Continue entering content by adding a new Slide 3 using the Title and Content layout.
  2. On the new Slide 3 (no title), enter text identifying the judging categories as follows:
    1. Enter Judging Criteria as the slide title.
    2. In the content placeholder, enter a bulleted list with the following items:

Humor

Showmanship

Design

Wow! Factor

  1. With Slide 3 (“Judging Criteria”) still displaying, increase the indent of the “Wow! Factor” bulleted item by one level to show that “Wow! Factor” is part of the “Design” category.
  2. On Slide 4 (“Contest Rules”), decrease the indent of the “Wear registration sticker” bulleted item by one level to show that “Wear registration sticker” is separate from “Fill out registration form”.
  3. On Slide 5 (“Promoters”), replace “Promoters” with Sponsors in the title placeholder.
  4. You will send this presentation to the rest of the committee for their feedback. Because you want the committee to focus on the content, you format it with a plain design. Apply the Office theme to all slides.

In Slide Sorter view, your presentation should look like the Final Figure on the following page. Save your changes, close the presentation, then exit PowerPoint. Follow the directions on the SAM website to submit your completed project.
