Please answer all questions in full sentences, using graduate-level grammar and sentence structure.  Errors will be taken into account when calculating your grade for the exam.
You may complete the exam in a word document and email it to me.  You are welcome to use your notes and readings.  You do not have to use remote proctor.  Do NOT use the internet for information.  Direct quotes from your readings must be cited.

1. 25 Points (2-3 paragraphs):  Discuss the role of education – or the lack thereof – in the development of women’s place in Western Civilization.  Provide specific examples from your readings. 
2. 25 Points (2-3 paragraphs):  Discuss the roles that science has played in subjugating women. 
3. 10 Points: (2 paragraphs): Discuss the ways science and the Enlightenment created a definition of what was expected of women in the west. 
4. 15 Points (1-2 paragraphs):  In Christine de Pizan’s, The Book of the City of Ladies, how do her questions to Reason and Rectitude reveal to us women’s place and roles, as well as the assumptions about women, in Europe in the 1400s?
5. 25 Points (2-3 paragraphs):  Per The Female Malady, what role does “medicine” and “treatment” play in convincing women and society that women are “crazy”?
