1) Write 3/4 to 1 page paper exploring a topic and stance that is currently being discussed in the U.S. or abroad. Why are you interested in this topic? What aspects do you need to learn more about in order to persuade people toward your point of view?

Your topic MUST BE ARGUABLE; it must be based on an opinion and a stance. In other words, it can't just be a report on NAFTA or DACA for example.  You may choose any topic though, as long as it is relevant to the public interest.

2) Write 5 possible claim statements ON THE SAME topic, remembering to pick claims that not everyone already agrees with, that are arguable, that aren't strictly factual but based in opinion, that are interesting and controversial in some way. :) The claims should be single sentences only.

3) Please find 8 reputable sources that discuss your topic AND YOUR STANCE.
