Violent media games
Violent video games are harmful to children and adolescents. It can be seen from their activities, and the time they spend playing these video games.
Video games play a significate role in the lives of youths and kids in America. It is their favorite pastime as they derive satisfaction from playing these games. My concern is children between the ages of 5 and 8 spend half of their day playing violent video games on their tablets, television, and phones. The unknown part of games that most parents are not aware of is that these violent video games on the market contain some form of violence that impacts the kids negatively.
My target audience is parents and educators who need to work hand in hand with parents to find a solution to this situation. Parents spend a great deal of time with their children. They need to implement parental control over what their children have access to and also have the ability to restrict their children from spending too much time on these violent video games. Educators, on the other hand, also have a vital role to play in the lives of these children and youths in that they can counsel the children on the consequences of playing violent video games for prolonged periods.
Violent video games tend to desensitize children and youths as they tend to think that violent acts are normal. Consequently, they have no empathy for their victims. The amount of time that children and teenagers spend playing these games can lead to addiction and even make them aggressive towards their peers.
Several lines of evidence confirm that there is a link between exposure to violent video games and aggressive behavior (Guy Porter and Vladan Starcevic). Also, studies have shown that children who played video games that future violence with swords and guns were more likely to engage in risky gun-related activities than those who did not (Justin Chong, Ma, and Brad J. Bushman).
People who like violent video games claim that it helps offer a safe coping mechanism for difficult emotions. They also claim that violent video games improve a person’s thinking ability.
In as much as these violent video games may have some beneficial aspects, the consequences outweigh the benefits.
Children and youths need to be given other forms of distractions like sporting activities, reading drills, and more family-centered activities, which will reduce the time spent on these violent video games.
