Thesis Statement for the literary analysis essay on Sula

Toni Morrison uses betrayal as the main theme in his novel to make readers and other people in the society understand that betrayal is real. It can occur in any form of the environment be it friendship, marriage, workplace, family, business partners, in the church, politics, etc. Sula betrays her childhood friend Nel by sleeping with her husband Jude and Nel feel so bad that she does not think her friendship with Sula can be renewed no matter what. Morrison is trying to say that not everyone you see laughing with you is your friend. A joke is done for humorous amusement and whatever has been said should not be taken seriously. Whereas, on the other hand, a betrayal is an act of violating trust between two people, and in most cases, the outcome has no humor and cannot be reversed as seen in the novel. Even the joke known as the bottom in the novel would be termed as betrayal in the long run.

2- Works Cited Page In MLA

Here are some guidelines to remember:

1. Your Works Cited page should have a minimum of three entries:

a. one for the novel

b. two from articles connected to your discussion (at least one of those articles should come from the MDC databases; both can come from the databases).

2. Formatting for Works Cited:

a. Center the words Works Cited one inch from the top of the page.

b. Double-space within and between entries--no extra spaces between entries.

c. Every line after the first for each source is indented.

d. Sources are listed in alphabetical order.

e. You can use one of the citation builders to create the entry: Easy Bib, Citation Machine, or any other that you find reliable and helpful. Remember that these don’t always provide you with the correct spacing and indentation, and you may have to tweak those in your paper. Also, check that the entry looks like a works cited entry should for the type of document you are citing—whether a journal article, an interview, a magazine article, a chapter from a book, etc.
