Unit 7 Text Questions

1)What unique challenges do you think could come from using mo-cap animation on fantasy or alien creatures with anatomies entirely unlike any real species? How would you tackle those challenges in your own animation? (You may provide a sample fantasy creature such as a dragon, mermaid, centaur, griffon, etc. to explain your answer.)

  1. Based on what you learned in the unit, what is non-destructive editing? What are the benefits of a change being non-destructive?
  2. The unit gives examples of objects with parent-child relationships, like a turret on a tank or a rotor on a helicopter. Provide at least three more examples of potential parent-child relationships in other animation projects. At least one of the examples must be something other than a vehicle.
  3. Imagine you were going to use a dedicated workstation for an animation job rather than

a personal PC or the all-purpose PCs you see in libraries and most schools. What differences would you expect to see between a dedicated 3D animation workstation and a typical PC? How would they differ in specification, price, software, OS (operating system), connectivity (internet/Wi-Fi), security, and/or ergonomics? Describe the differences across at least THREE of the above options.

  1. When setting frames for an animation, what factors would you expect to be considered when deciding which “shots” become key frames? How about deciding how much time should be allotted to move from key frame to key frame? How might it change depending on whether you are creating a realistic animation compared to a more cartoon-style animation? What might you study, review, consider, or otherwise research in order to create animation suitable for a specific project?
