You will create a script for a 15-minute, original podcast on a historical event or issue from the first half of
this class that you believe resonates with issues, events, or ongoing developments in the modern world.
Just as you would in a quality research paper, your podcast needs to
1) be informed by a good question that you seek to answer
2) work through the information that you have gathered that informs your answer
3) explain the importance of that answer, and
4) detail the implications of that answer
It does not need to include multiple speakers/personas, though it can.
It does not need to include an interview, though it can.
In other words, you can be as linear or post-modern as you wish to be, bringing in historical
personages and eyewitnesses, interviewing historians, etc.
Before you start drafting your script, you are going to need to decide on your topic, which is what the
Reflections have been (hopefully) helping you do. Pick something that you are interested in and want to
learn more about. Yes, you can pick something you have already discussed in a Reflection if that still holds
your interest.
Next, start gathering sources and digesting their content. You need to synthesize information and present
your findings, but only findings that are relevant to the discussion you want to have, and the answer you
are posing.
Next, consider the story you are telling and give your podcast a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Once you have done these things, you are ready to draft and polish.
Your submitted script should be:
1) equivalent to a 15-minute podcast
2) the product of sufficient research (based on reliable secondary and primary sources). I cannot
imagine an A-level podcast being written without at least 5 sources; you are welcome to use more,
particularly if you are relying on primary sources.
3) include citations within the script, where and when needed, and a bibliography
4) the script should be as error-free as possible. You have had this prompt since the first day of
class and can be working on this on a weekly basis as you complete your textbook reading.
Turning in a sloppy, unedited mess will not merit my serious consideration of your work.
