I have learned many concepts in the course thus far but the two concepts that I have to identify are harassment and Discrimination. I decided on these because unfortunately they still exist in the workplace. Simply put, harassment is degrading, humiliating, hostile, intimidating, and offensive. For me, it doesn’t matter if you are on the job or off the job. Every person should be treated with dignity and respect. As my mother would say, “treat other people the way you would want to be treated.” I’m pretty sure we have all heard this phrase. Just being kind to one another can go miles at work and in your personal life. Especially in today’s world we could use some patience, compassion, and genuine interest in others. Think about how great a company can be if they focused on team building relationships among employees, supervisors, and managers. For me, a toxic culture that breaths poor behavior is unacceptable.
The second is discrimination. Any kind of discrimination should not be tolerated. As I read through a lot of the post and reading about people losing their jobs due to the pandemic it makes me wonder if some of the jobs lost were based on discrimination. I realize that discrimination can be hard to prove but it makes me wonder if it’s taking place. The best thing I could do is to make sure a company has up-to-date policies and procedures, and that they have a good training program. For me, it boils down to communication, trust, and training.
