Coordination:

Coordination refers to the efforts made to orderly arrange the group activities; so that, such activities could be completed in an effective and smooth manner. Coordination involves assuring that there is no omission or duplication of tasks.

Coordination can be achieved through effective communication.

For example, to manage an event, various service providers such as caterers, decorators, activity managers may coordinate with each other to ensure that event runs in a smooth and orderly manner.

Coordination is an essential element in management of a particular activity.

Cooperation:

Cooperation is mutual help which is done voluntarily by the individuals. Individuals may or may not cooperate depending upon their will. For example, in the above example, in case caterer need more time to prepare food, then activity manager may cooperate by extending time of certain activities; or, may also decide not to cooperate.

Conclusion

Thus, coordination can be achieved by establishing communication, and giving instructions; however, cooperation is a voluntary act which cannot be easily enforced.

To establish cooperation, management may require solving the difference of opinion amongst people, establishing fair business practices, developing ethical culture within organization, allow freedom of speech and opinion, and make other similar efforts.
