Feudalism began after the fall of the Roman Empire, around the 5th century. It did take some time to dominate European culture, especially because the Roman Empire had controlled most of Europe for nearly 1000 years. The height of feudalism was between the 9th and 12th centuries, but lasted well into the 15th.
