According to recent surveys of parents in the United States, ‘‘77 % of parents of internet users have checked which websites their child visited, up from 65 % of parents who did this in 2006’’ (Lenhart et al. 2011, 8).[1] Given the potential dangers, both personal and legal, parents are often encouraged to monitor their children’s internet and cellphone usage.

Using Utilitarianism, answering the following question: “Should parents monitor their children’s internet and/or cellphone, social media, activity? Why or why not? In your paper you must explain why your answer leads to the “greatest good for all those involved”.  Stronger response will also include why the opposite answer from the position you take is not correct (Show why the other side is mistaken). You should think about and discuss potential consequences.

Length: minimum 1 page typed-double spaced, in proper format (paragraphs), grammar, and spelling. The entire response should be no more than 2 pages.

C: answers some, but not all parts of the assignment; lack details or the application of Utilitarianism needs more explanation; includes material from the textbook but may not make relevant connections; documents referenced material accurately; formatting and/or other errors present.

D: answers some, but not all parts of the assignment; lack details or the application of Utilitarianism needs more explanation; material from the textbook does not make relevant connections or, does not include any material from the textbook; formatting and/or other errors present.

E: provides limited answers to the questions that does not indicate a serious attempt to complete the assignment; does not explain Utilitarianism; does not make relevant connections; assignment contains numerous errors (formatting, grammar, spelling, punctuation)
