Management

This section is a continuation of your first submission. The second submission for your project requires you to:

  • Develop training objectives for each of the training modules identified in submission #1

  • Select ONE of the training modules and fully develop the module

EVALUATION

  • Total points available - 35
  • Allocation of final weighted project mark - 10.5/30
  • 15 pts - (2A) development of complete training objectives
  • 20 pts - (2B) development of one (1) individual training module

SUBSECTION 2A - DEVELOPMENT OF COMPLETE TRAINING OBJECTIVES

  1. See information about objectives in the Chapter Highlights, objective resources in the Project section and the same video included in Week 5.
  2. Each module (except for introduction, conclusion and breaks) requires a complete training objective. For the introduction and conclusion, only the performance aspect of the objective needs to be included.
  3. All other training objectives must include a PERFORMANCE, CONDITION, and a CRITERION. The criterion must be measurable during training for this project. This means you should not be looking for something like "performance to increase by 5%" or "sales will increase by 10%" - these are future-oriented and can only be measured in the workplace after the person returns to work. The condition should be clear and the criterion needs to be measurable. Do not use general descriptors such as "accurate" or "effective" - be very specific.

Participants will watch a short humorous video clip depicting poorly executed job interviews. A short quiz will follow to identify specific errors made in the video.

Trainees will demonstrate their current awareness of poor interview techniques by individually creating a written list of five interview errors shown in the video clip.

Take some time to review the sample Objective shown above in the "INTERVIEWS GONE WRONG" module example above.

Can you spot all three of the required parts? See the break down noted below:

  • PERFORMANCE - "Trainees will demonstrate their current awareness of poor interview techniques"
  • CONDITION - "by individually creating a written list of"
  • CRITERION - "five interview errors shown in the video clip"

Examples of Module objectives:

PERFORMANCE (What will the learner be able to do?)

  • the Recruitment Specialist will be able to identify poor interviewing techniques
  • the sales trainees will be able to describe the benefits of up-selling products

CONDITION (Under what conditions will the trainee demonstrate the learning?)

  • After watching the interview video clip
  • After a lecture

CRITERION (How will you measure what the learner will be able to do?

  • verbalizing 3 examples to a partner
  • listing 8 organizational benefits

Full objectives (from the examples above)

  1. After watching the interview video clip, (condition) the Recruitment Specialist will be able to identify poor interviewing techniques (performance) by verbalizing 3 examples to a partner (criterion).

SUBSECTION 2B - DEVELOPMENT OF ONE INDIVIDUAL TRAINING MODULE

Choose ONE module (any module) from your training session and write that module out in detail.

The module you select should no less than 15 minutes in duration and no more than 1 hour.

Script what you will say. It must be your own work.

I am measuring your ability to develop a module which means not only what you will say but how you will manage your learning environment so that people learn; activities you plan to engage people in, how you monitor and ensure trainees are focused, anticipated responses you feel you may get and how to handle them.

Do not choose a module that is simply showing a video or giving trainees individual/group working time - those types of modules will not provide me with sufficient information to grade you.

REMEMBER - I should be able to pick up your module and train with it in your absence, even if I know nothing about the topic. You need to include information about:

  •  the training methods you are using,
  •  tools that need to be arranged for in advance,
  •  handouts,
  • time guides throughout etc. so that I can stay on track,
  •  debriefing comments at the end of exercises,
  •  potential answers to questions, etc.

If the module you choose requires handouts, the handouts must be fully developed and included (any information referenced for your hand-outs must be referenced).

Information must not be copied directly from the internet. Do not use PowerPoint slides as your primary notes. If your module includes presentation slides, paste the slides directly into this document.

If you use a PowerPoint it must be your own work and not something from the internet.

You can include the content of your slides but you must also include the notes of what you would say for each slide. Do not use Excel charts.
