Metacognitive processes include planning, monitoring, problem solving, and evaluating, among other things. To teach vocabulary to my students I would use the strategy of gathering and organizing materials. I will hand out guided notes and the students will need to fill in the blanksand match up vocabulary words with their definition. They will then file it in their graphic organizer. Teaching students to look for and find just the information needed for the task at hand helps them to build efficiency, avoid confusion and save time.

The students willbe given an acronym like STAR which means Search, Translate, Answer, Review.Mnemonics are helpful in teaching students with who have difficulty recalling verbal and content-area information, as they are effective with any type of verbal content.

Language learning strategies are those that help increase progress in speaking and comprehending a new language. When learningvocabulary, I will use the strategy of analyzing words. I will discuss and model what the Prefix, root,andsuffix of the vocabulary word means.For example, binomial can be broken down into prefix of bi meaning two and the root nomial meaning terms.This is beneficial as itteaches students that specific prefixes and suffixes can lend clues to a word’s meaning, as can the root of the word.
