A data set will be available from iLearn at the end of Week 10. The documentation for this
data set is given below. This data set must be analysed by answering the three questions on
page 4 and a concise, well-organised report on your analysis must be prepared. The analysis
must be appropriate and be substantially graphical. Appropriate statistical graphics explored
or mentioned in the lectures should be used. The statistical package R must be used. All R
code used must be submitted in a separate file called Rcode.
There is no group work. This is an individual assessment task.
The report must be word processed and must be submitted in pdf format online via iLearn on
the due date. It should be at most 5 pages long (1500 word count) including the graphics.
Note that a word document can be saved as pdf.
Failure to submit this assessment by the due date without relevant documentation to explain
the lateness (submitted as a Special Consideration online within 5 working days of due date)
will result in a mark of 0 being awarded for this assessment.
Your assignment must be word processed and converted to a single pdf file for online
submission in iLearn using Assignment 2.
If you do not receive email confirmation from iLearn it means that your submission did not
work. Go back and do it again. Keep trying until you receive email confirmation from iLearn.
Please make sure you keep a copy of the pdf you submitted, a screen dump or print out of
the iLearn page before clicking on Submit and the confirmation email you received from
iLearn. If you think iLearn has lost your work but you cannot produce this evidence you risk
receiving a mark of 0.

Fish market sales data set
This dataset is a record of seven common fish species in fish market sales. The information
recorded is given in the following table.

Analysis
Answer the following research questions using R.
(1) Is weight of the fish related to any of the other measurements made on the fish? Use
statistical graphics to answer this question. No model fitting is required. [10 MARKS]
(2) Is weight of the fish related to any of the other measurements made on the fish for the seven
common fish spieces? Use statistical graphics to answer this question. No model fitting is
required. [10 MARKS]
(3) For Perch what variables are a useful predictor of weight? First inspect graphically if any
of the predictor variables under consideration have very strong linear relationships for
Perch. For example, if three related variables for Perch have a close to perfect pairwise
linear relationship only include one of the variables as a predictor. To answer this question
you need to explore if it is possible to fit an appropriate linear model. [5 MARKS]
