Group 3: Please address the following 3 questions:
Remember – the Group 3 initial posting is due by Friday midnight; it should be about two short paragraphs in length, supported by external research, and it should be posted by clicking on "Start a New Thread". These postings need to thoroughly respond to the questions and incorporate relevant research correctly. Please look at what has been posted by your classmates before choosing your examples, and then select something that has not yet been discussed, if possible. Let’s try to spread the discussion across as many examples as possible.
Then members of Groups 1, 2 and 4 should reply to at least three different postings by other classmates before Tuesday midnight. Responses to initial postings should be specific and assess whether posting accurately and sufficiently addresses the questions asked in the discussion topic and should incorporate relevant research correctly. Explain your assessment as to why the information is or is not correct and/or complete, providing correct information to enhance the discussion.
Members of Group 3 should read the responses and reply to a minimum of two responses, reacting to the response and furthering the discussion.
All students have a responsibility to check back and see if any questions have been posed to them and to respond as you would in a classroom setting. Use the Grading Rubric posted in the Discussion area to ensure your posting meets the expectations.
To be clear, I initially valued all three aspects of the triple constraint as equally important. This is why they are often visualized as the equal points of a triangle. The three aspects or functions that make up the triple constraint are time, cost, and the scope. These three aspects together determine the overall quality of the project upon completion. In MTC's situation I would place great importance on the scope of the overall project. The scope is the starting point and the foundation for the entire project, it is imperative that this document is detailed, thorough, and does not leave anything to question. Failure to do so could result in what is known as scope creep where the project becomes bigger throughout its duration. This scope creep will have a detrimental impact on cost, time, and outcome. In MTC's case they obviously still care about time and cost but there is not a firm budget, yet they do need to be able to justify all improvements. There is also no exact deadline to meet though the sooner the better to ensure the improvement if their hiring process. This leaves it up to the scope to clearly define what exactly MTC needs in their information system, when deadlines need to be met, and what hardware and maintenance will be required among other things.
There are numerous project planning documents that when combined will ensure a more secure and sound scope and project duration. Some of these include the official project pitch where the plan is laid out on the table for everyone to see and understand; the cost estimate and work breakdown structure will ensure everything to be purchased has been identified; and finally the overall project schedule created in something like Microsoft Project Pro. Utilizing this or similar software will allow teams to organize all aspects of the project as well as plan for scheduling conflicts. The scope of work is not the easiest aspect of a project to create and plan for but I strongly believe it is the key to MTC's success in getting the information system they desperately need.
