Management

Throughout the course, you will need to identify various technology trends and sources of data that will help you understand those things impacting your CLC’s company. Sources may include the following:  www.strategyclub.com, GCU library, government sites, white papers, etc. Of the sources that you have identified, which sources do you believe would be most useful and why, as it applies to the strategic case analysis and recommendations for strategic plan development?

In general, sources provide factual and empirical evidence to support or debunk a position, validate a claim or inform and instruct audiences of the unknown. When considering sources it’s important to note, all sources are not created equal. To adequately answer the question I will break down each of the above provided sources and list my thoughts on each.

www.strategyclub.com

While this is my first experience using this website, it lists it’s vision statement as “Our vision is to provide the best strategic-management textbook in the world, available in ten languages and widely used in both academia and business.” This statement seems to place importance on providing accurate information on the subject of strategic management.

My thought - Taking them at face value would be misguided on my part, so I’ll defer taking an uninformed position until I can learn more about them. I will make the observation that since you (Dr. Ferdowsian) have recommended this as a site that we should use during this course, that they are indeed likely to be a credible source.

GCU library

The library at GCU provides a plethora of information consisting of articles (both peer reviewed and non-peer reviewed), journals, periodicals, books (both in paper form and electronic), just to name a few. In general, university libraries are great sources of scholarly articles. This is because the content has been reviewed and accepted by many experts in that field of study, thus providing credibility. However, as a result of this validation and acceptance process some information may be slightly delayed.

My thought -This source is great when reviewing information when enough time has elapsed in order for such review to have been conducted.

White papers

According to Wikipedia, (2020). “A white paper is an authoritative report or guide that informs readers concisely about a complex issue and presents the issuing body's philosophy on the matter. It is meant to help readers understand an issue, solve a problem, or make a decision.”

My thought – This is a great source for obtaining information that can be built upon to support a position based on facts and from a credible source.

Government sites

Generally government sites are good sources of credible information. Governments tend to have information on it’s citizens not located in such detail or extensive nature elsewhere. In addition, they tend to have many years of compiled information which can prove useful in the area of research and information gathering.

My thought – This is usually a great source of information, however recent political events and interference in certain government entities such as the CDC may have one pause and question the validity of some information obtained from government sites.

Conclusion

Overall, peer reviewed (scholarly sources) found in the GCU library and also from white papers have been widely accepted as the standard when it comes to credible information sources. As such, I think both are equally useful. When not influenced by politics, government sources also provides great information that can be counted on as credible.
