V-Intern Virtual Internship General Instruction

This 15-week eCommerce and eCommerce and eBusiness Tech course designed to create professionals capable of planning, designing and managing a company's eCommerce initiatives, for both products and services. A series of activities is composed of a virtual internship. Students take on the role of a newly-hired member of a recently formed eCommerce team. In each stage, students encounter the real-life obstacles and opportunities inherent in creating a viable online business.

Stage One: The Web-Based Marketplace

Students, playing the role of newly hired members of a recently formed eCommerce team, begin by analyzing the electronic marketplace, including the national and international reach and the technical and business components required to transact business over the web.

Then, students build an understanding of existing eCommerce models, and learn how to design sustainable web-based business. Specifically, they will conduct an ROI analysis, generate pro forma financials, and write go-to-market strategies.

Finally, students shift their focus from key business drivers to technical aspects of the eCommerce environment. They use modern HTML and CSS to create an attractive informative website, based on client requirements.

Stage Two: Electronic Payments, Pricing and Security

Students begin by examining the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the complexities of each major ePayment method (e.g. credit card, bank draft, ACH, PayPal, etc.). Then, they learn about secure protocols and encryptions over which financial transactions can happen on the web.

Finally, students analyze how to establish proper pricing algorithmically. Proper pricing can determine market success or failure, particularly in eCommerce, where prices can change rapidly in response to demand, competition pricing, seasonality, and other factors.

Your Virtual Internship Tasks 1: Conduct an eCommerce Analysis

Plan of Approach

You have been asked by Internship coordinator;

1.            To choose a Web site that is bricks and mortar business which you think it can be a candidate for an e-commerce website. (replace the Web Site's name with the one you choose).

2.            To analyze the commonalities and differences between the Web Site's current business and its potential eBusiness. Based on that analysis, you construct and prioritize the list of activities that the Web Site will need to do to make its eBusiness a successful reality. The analysis and list as the first steps in organizing the Web Site's 's eCommerce initiative and providing the foundation for developing a business case.

This task requires you to prepare two deliverables for Internship coordinator:

•   eCommerce Analysis of the commonalities and differences between the core facets of the Web Site's 's existing business and its potential eBusiness.

  • List of eCommerce Activities that are required to launch and run the Web Site's 's potential eCommerce website. The list should include:
  • A list of all the activities required to launch and run the Web Site's 's eCommerce website

  • Description of each activity

  • The importance of each activity

  • Your rationale for including each activity

  • When each activity should be completed (before launch, at launch or soon after launch, after getting experience with customers)

The steps below will walk you through this process.

The list should include both technical and non-technical activities.

2.            Rate the importance and urgency of each eCommerce activity.
